Description
The Restaurant Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the dining area, kitchen, and dishwashing areas . This includes cleaning dishes, supporting the service team, assisting with table setup and breakdown, and ensuring overall sanitation in the restaurant environment. Key Responsibilities: Cleaning & Sanitation: Wash and sanitize dishes, glassware, utensils, and kitchen equipment . Maintain cleanliness in dishwashing stations , kitchen floors, and service areas. Clean and reset tables quickly and efficiently during service. Ensure restrooms and guest areas are clean and stocked (if part of responsibilities). Empty trash bins regularly and safely dispose of waste. Operational Support: Assist servers with clearing tables, carrying trays, or restocking items. Organize clean dishes and deliver them to appropriate stations. Refill napkins, cutlery, and tableware as needed. Support kitchen staff by keeping prep areas clean and supplied. Hygiene & Safety: Follow all health, hygiene, and safety regulations (HACCP or local guidelines). Handle cleaning chemicals safely and use proper protective gear. Report any maintenance issues to supervisors promptly. Requirements: No formal education required, but basic understanding of hygiene is a plus. Previous experience in a stewarding or cleaning role preferred. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Physically fit – capable of lifting, bending, and standing for long hours. Team player with a responsible and dependable attitude. Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays. Working Conditions: Hot, wet, and noisy environment during peak service hours. Requires long periods of standing and physical movement.
