Job Description

Job Summary : The OT Technician (Scrub Side) is responsible for preparing the operation theatre, arranging surgical instruments and supplies, assisting the surgical team during procedures by maintaining a sterile field, and ensuring adherence to infection control protocols. The technician plays a critical role in the smooth functioning of surgeries by supporting surgeons and nurses in pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative tasks. Key Responsibilities : Pre-Operative Duties : Prepare the OT and sterile field before surgery. Check and arrange surgical instruments and supplies according to the surgery schedule. Ensure sterilization of instruments and equipment prior to procedures. Assist in patient positioning and skin preparation. Verify surgical packs and tray setups are complete and sterile. Intra-Operative Duties : Scrub in and assist surgeons during the procedure by passing instruments and supplies. Maintain aseptic technique and ensure sterile field is not compromised. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon to ensure the procedure runs smoothly. Count instruments, sponges, and sharps before, during, and after surgery. Post-Operative Duties : Help in the safe transfer of the patient from the OT table to recovery. Assist in the disposal of used materials and restocking of supplies. Clean and sterilize instruments and prepare them for the next procedure. Document surgical records and instrument usage. Qualifications : Diploma or Certification in Operation Theatre Technology or equivalent. Previous experience as a scrub technician preferred (1–3 years). In-depth knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures. Understanding of infection control protocols and aseptic techniques. Skills and Competencies : Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a high-stakes environment. Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Team player with strong interpersonal communication. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism. Work Conditions : Rotational shifts including weekends and holidays. Standing for long hours during surgeries. Exposure to bodily fluids and biohazards (PPE provided).
