Job Description

Role: Utilities Manager – Power & Steam Generation (Starizo – Virudhachalam, TN)

Role Summary

  • Lead all utilities for a 700 TPD rice starch plant, covering power generation, steam generation, water treatment and ETP to ensure 24×7 support for production with 99%+ reliability.
  • Own utility strategy, commissioning, operations and cost, acting as single point of accountability to the Plant Head/Managing Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run 18.65 MW captive power plant and 70 TPH AFBC boiler with targeted availability of ≥95% and ≥99% respectively.
  • Ensure reliable operation of RO, DM, cooling towers and ZLD/ETP (approx. 200 m³/hr water and 2000 m³/day effluent).
  • Plan and execute utilities commissioning (power, steam, water, ETP) and achieve performance guarantee milestones safely and on time.
  • Build, lead and develop a 91-member utilities team (FTE + contract) across 24×7 shifts with strong safety and performance culture.
  • Drive statutory and environmental compliance (TNPCB, boiler, electrical) and maintain zero major incidents or violations.
  • Own utility P&L: manage ₹45–50 crore annual budget, optimize captive vs. grid power, and continuously reduce specific energy and steam consumption.

Ideal profile

  • Education: B.E/B.Tech in Electrical or Mechanical (mandatory); Boiler Competency Certificate and First Class Boiler Certificate; MBA/M.Tech in Power/Energy preferred.
  • Experience: 15–18 years in utilities with at least 12+ years in power & steam generation and 5+ years in senior leadership, preferably in continuous process / food / chemical plants with captive power (15+ MW) and high-pressure boilers (60+ TPH).
  • Scale: Proven track record managing large utility teams (80+ people) in 24×7 plants and handling commissioning, ramp-up and stabilization.

Critical success factors (first 12–18 months)

  • Commission and stabilize utilities on schedule with zero major safety incidents.
  • Achieve and sustain targeted availability, efficiency and compliance metrics with no production loss due to utilities.
  • Build a full-strength, trained, low-attrition team and establish a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement.

Location & compensation

  • Location: Virudhachalam plant, Tamil Nadu.
  • Level: L2 (Management); CTC approx. ₹35–40 LPA plus joining bonus and standard benefits as per company policy.
