Job Title: Tool Room Engineer – Automotive Industry Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu Experience: 3–5 Years Department: Tooling / Maintenance / Manufacturing Industry: Automotive Components / OEM / Tier-1 Suppliers Job Summary: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tool Room Engineer to support our automotive component manufacturing operations in Chennai. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge in tool design, maintenance, and troubleshooting, particularly for tools used in metal stamping, die casting, or plastic injection molding relevant to the automotive sector. Key Responsibilities: Maintain, repair, and modify stamping dies, injection molds, and fixtures used in automotive parts manufacturing. Operate and program CNC, EDM, wire cut, surface grinding, and conventional machines for tool fabrication and repair. Collaborate with production, design, and quality teams to ensure tooling meets dimensional and functional requirements. Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for tool failures or quality issues. Implement preventive maintenance schedules for all tools to minimize downtime and extend tool life. Assist in the development and validation of new tools for upcoming automotive projects. Maintain documentation related to tool drawings, maintenance history, and tool inventory. Ensure tools comply with ISO/TS 16949 and IATF 16949 quality standards. Follow and enforce all workplace safety and environmental regulations. Required Skills and Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die Making, or a related field. 3–5 years of hands-on experience in tool room operations within the automotive industry. Strong knowledge of tool design for metal forming, die casting, or injection molding processes. Proficiency in interpreting GD&T and engineering drawings. Familiarity with CAD/CAM software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or NX). Knowledge of IATF 16949 standards and APQP/PPAP documentation is an advantage. Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills. Preferred Attributes: Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen methodologies. Team player with a proactive and quality-driven approach. Willingness to work in shifts and flexible with work hours based on production needs.
