Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Lead to spearhead the design, development, and implementation of our Azure Data Platform based on Microsoft Fabric. The successful candidate will oversee technical aspects of the project, ensuring robust architecture, scalability, and performance while working closely with stakeholders, developers, and data engineers. This is a leadership role with hands-on technical responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Leadership:

Work in collaboration with implementation partner to validate the design, architecture, and deployment of the Microsoft Fabric Data Platform, ensuring alignment with business requirements and best practices.

Provide guidance and technical mentorship to the project team, including developers, data engineers, and analysts.

Set standards for coding, data modelling, and solution design.

2. Design & Implementation:

Develop and implement scalable and secure data solutions using Microsoft Fabric products and services

Architect Lead and contribute to the design and development of data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, and processing of large datasets.

Ensure the platform adheres to compliance, governance, and security standards.

3. Collaboration:

Collaborate with stakeholders to capture User Stories that can be added to the backlog and refined into technical requirements and actionable project plans.

Work closely with DevOps teams to define and refine CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes for the data platform.

Liaise with DTS and business-led technology teams to ensure secure and appropriate access to LSE systems and applications.

Work closely with Data Analysts within LSE to maximise the efficiencies of the new platform

4. Quality Assurance:

Conduct code reviews and enforce quality assurance practices to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Monitor platform performance (pipelines, codes processes, and troubleshoot issues).

Devise and implement testing strategies (including regression testing) to ensure data accuracy and reliability prioritising automation where possible

5. Documentation & Training:

Develop comprehensive documentation for architecture, processes, and workflows.

Provide or facilitate training and knowledge sharing sessions for team members and stakeholders.

Experience:

Technical Skills:

Proven experience implementing Microsoft Fabric

Strong expertise in other Azure data services, including Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure SQL Database

Hands-on experience with data modelling, ETL/ELT processes, and data pipeline orchestration.

Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Spark, and Scala.

Proven experience in SQL language

Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform, Git Lab/Git Hub or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates.

Experience of of Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.

Understanding of security, governance, and compliance standards in data platforms.

Leadership & Collaboration:

Proven experience leading technical teams and managing complex data projects.

Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse technical and business teams

Experience:

Experience in data engineering, data architecture, or related fields.

Experience working with Azure data technologies.

Previous experience leading the end-to-end implementation of a cloud data platform.
