Job Description

Role & responsibilities A Technical Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of the building or facility's infrastructure. This includes managing systems like HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, security, and other technical services that ensure a building operates efficiently and safely. The role requires a mix of technical expertise, leadership, and management skills. Key Responsibilities: Facility Operations Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of all technical building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, elevators, fire alarms, etc.). Ensure that all systems are running efficiently, with minimal downtime, and meet safety standards. Monitor and troubleshoot building systems to address any technical issues promptly. Preventive and Corrective Maintenance: Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all critical systems to reduce the risk of breakdowns. Manage corrective maintenance and ensure that repairs are carried out promptly and cost-effectively. Vendor and Contract Management: Manage relationships with third-party contractors and service providers for technical maintenance and repairs. Oversee the procurement of technical services and ensure that they comply with company standards and budget requirements. Review and negotiate contracts related to technical services and ensure performance standards are met. Compliance and Safety: Ensure compliance with local building codes, health and safety regulations, and environmental laws. Conduct regular safety inspections and audits to ensure the safety of all systems and the facility's occupants. Implement and monitor fire safety systems, emergency procedures, and ensure compliance with regulations. Budget and Resource Management: Develop and manage the budget for technical services and building systems maintenance. Track and report on expenses related to technical facilities operations, and identify areas for cost savings. Ensure that resources (tools, equipment, and materials) are available and maintained. Energy Management and Sustainability: Monitor energy usage and implement energy-saving measures to reduce the facility's carbon footprint and operating costs. Integrate sustainability initiatives, such as eco-friendly building practices and energy-efficient systems. Project Management: Oversee any technical upgrades, installations, or renovations within the facility. Work closely with construction teams, architects, and designers for any building modifications or expansions. Team Leadership and Staff Supervision: Lead a team of technicians, engineers, and facility staff. Provide training and support to staff on technical systems, safety practices, and best practices for maintenance. Manage the performance of the team and ensure efficient resource allocation. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain records of maintenance activities, equipment status, safety inspections, and compliance reports. Prepare regular reports for upper management on the condition of building systems, ongoing maintenance, and any technical issues. Skills and Qualifications: Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and other critical infrastructure systems. Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues in a timely manner. Project Management: Experience in managing complex projects, including upgrades, renovations, or new installations. Leadership Skills: Ability to lead a team, manage contractors, and work with other departments within the organization. Attention to Detail: Strong focus on maintaining the functionality and safety of building systems. Budgeting and Financial Management: Experience in budget planning and cost management for facility maintenance. Educational Background: A degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering , Electrical Engineering , Facilities Management , or a related field. Certifications in Facilities Management (e.g., IFMA Certified Facility Manager) or HVAC/Plumbing/Electrical can be beneficial.
