Job Description

Team Lead – Environment (Phenol Project)

Location

Haldia

Role Purpose

To lead and drive all Environment Management activities for the Phenol Project during engineering, construction, commissioning and early operations, ensuring full compliance with Indian regulatory requirements and Corporate Sustainability standards.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Statutory Approvals

•Lead all statutory environmental approvals for the project

•Facilitate submissions and queries with regulatory bodies.

•Ensure compliance to Consent conditions and Environment Clearance conditions.

Environment Management System

•Develop and implement Project EMPs (Environmental Management Plans) – Air, Water, Noise, Soil, Waste, Hazardous Waste etc.

•Establish monitoring protocols for air, water, effluent, emissions, stack, DG emissions, ambient environment.

•Track adherence to environmental norms during construction & commissioning.

Waste & Emission Management

•Ensure proper hazardous waste storage, manifesting, disposal (as per HW Rules)

•Evaluate emissions inventory, carbon footprint and support decarbonisation initiatives.

Project Stage Support

•Provide environmental inputs for PFDs, P&IDs and HAZOP/HAZID reviews.

•Ensure environmental clauses in project tendering, contracts and vendor evaluation.

•Review EPC/Consultant environmental deliverables.

Audits, Reporting & Documentation

•Conduct internal environmental audits for construction packages.

•Prepare statutory/management reports

•Coordinate third-party monitoring agencies and laboratories.

Stakeholder Management

•Work closely with Safety, Operations, Project Engineering, Utilities and Construction teams.

•Support Corporate ESG/Sustainability reporting and disclosures.

Key Qualification & Experience

•B.E./B.Tech in Environmental Engineering OR B. Tech with M.Sc. Environmental Science/Equivalent

•18–22 years relevant experience in Environment Management in Chemical/Petrochemical/Oil & Gas sector

•Experience in managing environmental obligations for large greenfield/brownfield projects

Key Skills & Competencies

•Strong knowledge of Indian environmental regulations (EP Rules, Air Act, Water Act, HW Rules, E-Waste, Plastic Waste Rules etc.)

•Skilled in Environmental Impact Assessment & Risk Assessment processes

•Strong interface management with statutory authorities

•Analytical, structured and good documentation skills

•Ability to influence cross-functional teams
