Job Description

Job Overview The Senior R&D/Product Development Engineer Design for Sustainability will support the development and implementation of engineering sustainability strategies within TEs DDN business. This role focuses on fostering a sustainability mindset within the organization, driving initiatives to reduce carbon footprint and emissions, and integrating sustainability requirements into early-stage product and process development. The incumbent will develop and deploy tools to report, calculate, and enhance circular engineering approaches in manufacturing, supply chain, and product design. Responsibilities Lead initiatives to minimize the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the product portfolio, aligning with organizational sustainability goals. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to define sustainability solutions and oversee the execution of sustainability projects. Develop and implement methods and tools to analyze, report, and enhance circularity in product design and manufacturing operations for carbon emission reduction. Build and maintain a pipeline of sustainability projects in coordination with engineering, procurement, material platforms, suppliers, technology centers, and product management. Serve as a subject matter expert on Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) and carbon emission reduction strategies. Support engineering teams in conducting environmental life cycle assessments and incorporating sustainability into decision-making processes. Identify training and capability-building needs to drive sustainability initiatives successfully. Work closely with customers, sales, and product management (PM) to gather Voice of Customer (VOC) insights, making engineering assessments and proposals for sustainability. Provide technical support to customers, sales teams, PMs, and manufacturing plants, conducting engineering analyses, troubleshooting, and verification. Collaborate with global manufacturing resources, procurement, and suppliers to ensure compliance with TEs technical, quality, and cost objectives. Required Skills Bachelors degree in Sustainability, Materials Science, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields (Masters preferred) Minimum of 8 years of experience in design/sustainability engineering. Experience with product compliance certification (Product, Safety, Environmental Substance Control). Basic knowledge of manufacturing processes such as machining, molding, stamping, and plating is advantageous. Understanding of material properties (metals/plastics) and associated manufacturing processes. Familiarity with material standards and agency approvals for connectors, cables, and cable assemblies. Experience in environmental life cycle assessment, circular economy, or product stewardship/compliance. Knowledge of ISO/IEC/UL standards related to carbon footprint and emissions reduction in industrial products. Competencies Values: Integrity, Accountability, Inclusion, Innovation, Teamwork
