Job Overview: The Store Incharge in the construction industry is responsible for managing the receipt, storage, and distribution of materials and equipment on construction sites. This role includes maintaining accurate inventory records, ensuring the timely availability of materials, and organizing the store to meet the needs of the construction project. The Store Incharge plays a key role in reducing wastage and ensuring the smooth flow of materials to ensure project timelines are met. Key Responsibilities: Inventory Management: Oversee the procurement, receiving, and storing of construction materials, tools, and equipment. Track inventory levels, ensuring that stock levels are sufficient for ongoing and upcoming construction activities. Conduct regular stock audits and reconciliations to ensure the accuracy of records and identify discrepancies. Maintain proper records of goods received, dispatched, and utilized in construction activities. Monitor expiry dates or wear-and-tear for tools or materials that need replacement or replenishment. Material Handling & Storage: Organize and store materials, tools, and equipment in a systematic and safe manner to prevent damage or loss. Ensure that all materials are easily accessible for the team and are stored according to safety regulations. Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials or heavy-duty equipment and follow safety protocols. Issuance of Materials: Issue construction materials to workers as per project requirements, ensuring proper documentation for each issuance. Maintain records of material usage to ensure efficient stock management and prevent wastage. Monitor material consumption rates and coordinate with the procurement team to reorder stock before it runs out. Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for timely delivery of materials and equipment. Inspect delivered materials for quality, quantity, and compliance with the required specifications. Address any issues with vendors regarding discrepancies or damaged goods. Staff Supervision and Coordination: Supervise store staff or laborers responsible for unloading, storing, and issuing materials. Train staff on inventory control procedures, safety protocols, and proper handling of materials. Maintain discipline and ensure that workers follow store and safety guidelines. Safety Compliance: Ensure that safety standards and regulations are strictly followed for material handling and storage. Conduct regular checks to ensure that the store and materials are secure and safe from hazards. Report any safety violations or potential risks to the project manager. Record Keeping and Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all stock movements (inward and outward). Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on inventory status, material usage, and stock levels. Document and report any damages, losses, or discrepancies in materials. Budgeting and Cost Control: Assist in budgeting and controlling costs related to the procurement and use of materials. Minimize material wastage through efficient stock management and proper usage guidelines. Suggest cost-effective alternatives and solutions where appropriate. Project Support: Coordinate with the project team to ensure timely material delivery based on project schedules. Ensure that critical materials and tools are available on-site to prevent project delays.
