Job Summary:
The SQL DBA will provide 24x7 support, including flexible shifts, to ensure the smooth operation of our database systems. The role involves handling basic connectivity issues, user account management, monitoring and alerts, backup monitoring, query optimization, service restarts, database space management, status checks, audit support, incident ticket handling, performance troubleshooting, running routine scripts, failover notifications, special requests, vulnerability remediation, database migrations, continuous improvement, and facilitating new deployments.
Key Responsibilities:
• Basic Connectivity Issues: Investigate and resolve user connection problems, ensure database services are running.• User Account Management: Create, delete, or modify user accounts and roles, reset passwords, grant/revoke access permissions.• Monitoring and Alerts Handling: Respond to automated monitoring alerts for performance issues, check for high CPU/memory/disk usage, notify L2/L3 if needed.• Backup Monitoring: Ensure scheduled backups complete successfully, notify the L2 team of any failures or inconsistencies.• Basic Query Optimization: Identify slow-running queries, provide basic troubleshooting (e.g., missing indexes).• Service Restarts: Restart database services when non-responsive or encountering failures.• Database Space Management: Monitor database storage and disk space, notify L2/L3 if space thresholds are crossed.• Database Status Checks: Check the health and availability of databases and server resources, monitor error logs for critical issues.• Supporting SOX & HIPAA Audit Requests: Assist with data gathering for SOX and HIPAA audit requests.• Incident Ticket Handling: Triage and escalate complex issues to L2/L3 teams, log issues in the ticketing system.• Basic Performance Troubleshooting: Investigate basic performance complaints (e.g., slow response times) and escalate if needed.• Running Routine Scripts: Execute pre-approved SQL scripts or queries for basic maintenance tasks (e.g., clearing logs).• Handling Failover Notifications: Notify higher-level teams in case of database failovers in HA environments.• Special Requests: Handle special requests like generating reports, running diagnostics, or performing data extracts under L2/L3 guidance.• Vulnerability Remediation Support: Assist with applying security patches and addressing basic vulnerabilities under L2/L3 guidance.• Supporting Database Migrations: Support pre-migration tasks and monitor migration processes, escalating issues to L2/L3 as needed.• Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Management: Continuously enhance processes and tools while updating knowledge base articles to improve efficiency and streamline issue resolution, under L2/L3 guidance.• Facilitating New Deployments for DBs & Managing Deployment Features: Help with new deployments for IaaS/On-Prem DBs and handle deployment features.
