Overview
The Solution Architect plays a critical role in bridging long-term enterprise strategy with the practical delivery of technology solutions across business domains. This role ensures that solution designs are aligned with MUFG s strategic objectives, technology roadmaps, and enterprise architecture principles. A key responsibility is defining and evolving foundational enterprise architecture elements such as domain models, integration patterns, data and security frameworks that enable the organisation s future-state architecture. The Solution Architect provides architectural oversight, fosters coherence across solution landscapes, and collaborates closely with business and technology stakeholders to support capability planning, promote reuse and standardisation, and ensure that solutions are scalable, secure, and future-ready. The role also demands a creative and pragmatic approach to leveraging cloud-native and open-source technologies particularly within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem to deliver innovative, cost-effective, and high-impact business outcomes.
Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities
Strategic Focus
- Design end-to-end solutions across cloud and on-prem environments.
- Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture principles and business goals.
- Lead cloud adoption initiatives and migration strategies.
- Architect solutions using IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS models.
- Apply EA frameworks to guide solution decisions.
- Present architectural solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Assess emerging technologies and recommend adoption strategies.
- Ensure solutions meet security, compliance, and regulatory standards.
- Promote architectural thinking and innovation.
- Contribute to the development of enterprise models and capability roadmaps that guide investment decisions and technology evolution.
Operational Management
- Maintain architectural artifacts and roadmaps.
- Collaborate with business, IT, and vendor teams to gather requirements.
- Lead on solution architecture for programmes and projects
- Conduct PoCs and feasibility studies.
- Enforce architectural governance and best practices.
People Leadership
- Guide development teams and junior architects
- Provide thought leadership on emerging technologies and architectural trends, ensuring MUFG remains adaptive and future ready.
Governance & Risk
- Play an active role in technology governance through Architecture Governance Board (AGB).

Experience & Personal Attributes
- Bachelors or Master s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of experience in solution architecture or related roles.
- Strong expertise in cloud platforms (Azure, AWS and GCP although primarily Azure).
- Familiarity with EA frameworks like TOGAF, Zachman, or FEAF.
- Experience with microservices, API design, and integration patterns.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or TOGAF are a plus.
- Working in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Leading digital transformation or modernization projects.
- Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
