Job Description – Shift Supervisor (Spinning Department)

Reporting To: Production Manager

Job Purpose

To supervise and control all spinning operations during the assigned shift to achieve targeted production, maintain yarn quality, reduce waste, and ensure smooth running of machines and manpower.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management

• Plan and execute shift operations according to production targets.
• Monitor and ensure smooth running of spinning machines (Ring Frame, Carding, Draw Frame, Simplex, etc.).
• Check machine performance, doff timings, and delivery quality during the shift.
• Ensure production efficiency, yarn count accuracy, and minimal wastage.
• Record shift production, doff counts, and downtime properly.

Quality Control

• Maintain consistent yarn quality as per standards (U%, CSP, strength, etc.).
• Check and report any yarn faults like thick/thin places, neps, or contamination.
• Ensure operators follow correct settings and machine cleanliness. Manpower & Supervision
• Allocate workers (operators, doffers, fitters, cleaners) as per production needs.
• Supervise their work and provide instructions for proper machine handling.
• Maintain discipline, safety, and attendance during the shift.
• Support training of new operators and helpers.

Maintenance & Coordination

• Report machine breakdowns to maintenance and ensure timely rectification.
• Check oiling, cleaning, and preventive maintenance schedules are followed.
• Keep close coordination with previous and next shift supervisors for smooth handover.

Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain shift logbook for production, quality, and machine stoppage details.
• Submit daily reports to Spinning Incharge / Production Manager.
• Record yarn waste and ensure proper collection and disposal.

Required Skills

• Strong technical knowledge of spinning processes (Blow Room to Ring Frame).
• Understanding of yarn quality parameters and process settings.
• Leadership and communication skills for managing manpower.
• Ability to troubleshoot machine and process issues quickly.
• Basic computer knowledge for shift reporting.

Qualification & Experience

• Qualification: Diploma / B.Tech in Textile Technology or related field.
• Experience: 3–5 years in spinning production, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
