  1. Job Summary

The Shift Incharge (Production) is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the production shift in a grain-based ethanol distillery. This role ensures efficient, safe, and compliant production of ethanol from grain feedstocks (such as corn, wheat, or sorghum) through processes including milling, fermentation, distillation, and dehydration. The incumbent will lead a team of operators and technicians, monitor process parameters, troubleshoot issues, and maintain high standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance. This position plays a critical role in achieving production targets while minimizing downtime and waste.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of production operators, technicians, and support staff during assigned shifts.
  • Assign tasks, provide on-the-job training, and conduct performance evaluations to ensure team efficiency and morale.
  • Coordinate shift handovers, ensuring seamless transition and communication of ongoing issues or updates.

Qualifications

  • Technical Skills:

    Strong knowledge of ethanol production chemistry, including enzyme hydrolysis, yeast fermentation, and distillation principles.
  • Proficiency in process monitoring tools, quality testing methods (e.g., HPLC, GC for ethanol purity), and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Understanding of utility systems like boilers, cooling towers, and wastewater treatment in distilleries.
  • Leadership and Soft Skills:

    Excellent team management and communication skills to lead diverse shift teams.
  • Problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Time management and multitasking in high-pressure environments.
  • Safety and Compliance Knowledge:

    In-depth understanding of industrial safety protocols, hazardous material handling (e.g., ethanol as a flammable liquid), and environmental regulations.
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and implement safety audits.
  • Other Attributes:

    Physical fitness to work in industrial settings, including standing for long periods, climbing ladders, and exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts and respond to emergencies outside regular hours.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel for reporting) and basic data analysis tools.
  • Strong ethical standards, attention to detail, and a commitment to sustainability practices in biofuel production.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in grain handling and milling operations.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy trends and bioethanol market dynamics.
  • Certification in Lean Manufacturing or Quality Management Systems.
  • Any Graduate, B.Tech, ITI with 8+ years of experience.
