Job Title: Server Administrator Department: Digital Technology Services (IT Department) Reporting To: Head of Digital Technology Services Job Description The Server Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining the institutions server infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security. The role involves configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting servers and related IT systems while supporting the institution's technological needs for academic and administrative operations. Key Roles & Responsibilities Server Management & Maintenance: Configure, maintain, and upgrade physical and virtual servers (Windows, Linux, or cloud-based). Ensure high availability and performance of server systems to meet institutional requirements. Perform regular backups, updates, and patch management to keep systems secure. Network & System Monitoring: Monitor server performance and proactively identify issues using monitoring tools. Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems promptly. Maintain network connectivity for on-premises and cloud-based servers. Security & Compliance: Implement and maintain server security protocols, including firewalls, access controls, and data encryption. Ensure systems are compliant with institutional and regulatory IT standards. Conduct regular audits and vulnerability assessments to mitigate risks. System Optimization & Upgrades: Research and recommend upgrades to hardware, software, and server technologies. Optimize server performance and resource utilization. Support the migration of services and applications to modern platforms when necessary. Collaboration & Support: Work closely with the IT team to align server infrastructure with institutional goals. Provide technical support for faculty, staff, and students as needed. Collaborate with external vendors for procurement and troubleshooting of server equipment. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain detailed documentation of server configurations, processes, and changes. Generate periodic reports on server health, uptime, and incidents. Qualifications & Skills Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering, or related fields (BE/B.Tech preferred). At least 4 years of relevant work experience in server administration. Key Skills: Proficiency in server operating systems (Windows Server, Linux/Unix). Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud services (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud). Strong knowledge of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and tools. Expertise in server security, firewalls, and backup/recovery processes. Familiarity with automation tools (Ansible, PowerShell) is a plus. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and team collaboration abilities.
