What Youll Do Job Summary We are seeking a Telecommunications Tax Analyst to join our dynamic and team at Avalara. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional to grow in an innovative environment while serving an elite group of customers with complex tax returns. As a key member of the Telecommunications Returns Service team, you will be the primary contact for customer interactions, ensuring a high level of service and satisfaction. You will identify areas of improvement, and balancing critical tax compliance needs. You will field both internal and external communications, setting clear expectations, relaying complex compliance information in an easily understood manner, and handling potential escalations with. Your success requires ownership of customer satisfaction, empathy toward customer needs, and to maximizing the benefits of Avalara s expertise and software. Youll work on-site and will report to the Manager - Tax and Compliance What Your Responsibilities Will Be Job Duties Prepare, review, and file multi-jurisdictional telecom, sales/use, business and occupation, and gross receipts tax returns for various filing periods. Be the primary contact for a select group of customers. Research and resolve jurisdictional notices on behalf of customers. Onboard and validate new sales/use tax returns customers. Identify and improve automation for enhanced customer service across tax verticals. Communicating with customers, jurisdictions, and internal teams for research and resolution. Perform QA on sales and use tax content and form changes. Identify process and technology improvements to enhance customer service. Collaborate with team members and management. Provide expert troubleshooting to reduce risk during tax cycles. Maintain in-depth knowledge of jurisdictional websites and taxpayer filing processes. What Youll Need to be Successful Qualifications Minimum 8 years of experience with a Bachelors degree, 6 years with a Masters, or 3 years with a PhD (or equivalent experience). Work during US business hours. Quick adaptability to new software applications and tools. Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel (Power Pivot, VLOOKUP, HLOOKUP). Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in accounting or finance. Experience with a Big 4 firm, multinational corporate tax department, or ERP integration. Expertise in Avalara s data flow from AvaTax to Returns Console. Experience with user platform features (nexus, exemptions, marketplace, rules, filing calendars, reporting, transactions). Knowledge of transaction flow across business functions and its impact on tax returns.
