About IIHS Campus Development

The IIHS main campus is located on a 54-acre freehold site at Kengeri, Bengaluru. The digitally-augmented buildings and facilities, slated to be built over three phases, are expected to enable interdisciplinary teaching-learning, research and practice, and demonstrate the best examples of Indian design and traditional crafts. The campus will aim to provide students and researchers with the opportunity to immerse themselves in and innovate around India’s core urban challenges.

The Campus Development team focuses on design, procurement, execution, and documentation activities at the IIHS Kengeri site. The work includes contract administration, design coordination, project management and handover of facilities to the IIHS Administration team.

Job Description

IIHS Campus Development is looking to hire a senior site engineer with around 7 to 10 years of work experience. This is a regular full-time position in the Campus Development team, based out of Bengaluru.

Activities and Tasks

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Technical duties:
    • Mid-level supervision, control, planning and execution of civil works for the Senior Faculty Housing, Plaza and Hostel blocks series and Hardscapes and other assigned tasks;
    • Interpreting technical drawings, plans, and specifications, providing guidance to junior engineers and site staff;
    • Conducting site assessments, measurements, and technical troubleshooting as issues arise;
    • Ensuring the correct implementation of engineering methods and use of materials as per project requirements;
    • Coordinating with architects, consultants, and contractors to resolve technical discrepancies;
    • Overseeing testing, commissioning, and inspection processes for construction phases;
    • Formulating and implementing a strict quality assurance and quality control plan;
  • Project management:
    • Planning, scheduling, and monitoring project progress, reporting on milestones and adjustments as required;
    • Allocating work, managing workforce deployment, and monitoring productivity;
    • Assisting in cost estimation, budgeting, material planning, and resource allocation;
    • Maintaining site documentation, including daily records, project logs, and compliance reports;
    • Tracking and managing project changes, ensuring variation orders are prepared and approved;
    • Ensuring timely delivery of project phases within budget and scope;
  • Soft skills and interpersonal abilities:
    • Leading site teams with a focus on motivation, development, and fostering a safety culture;
    • Communicating effectively with all project stakeholders—clients, consultants, contractors, and government authorities;
    • Negotiating and resolving conflicts or discrepancies in a professional manner;
    • Adapting to changing priorities and demonstrating flexibility in problem-solving;
    • Facilitating on-site meetings and safety briefings, ensuring collaboration among diverse teams;
    • Exhibiting high attention to detail, integrity, and a proactive attitude in delivering project outcomes;
  • Providing support to other IIHS activities including academics, research, training, practice, operations and others;
  • Participating in all activities of Institution-Building at IIHS, carrying out tasks as assigned by IIHS, and travelling on IIHS work within or outside the country as needed.

Structure and Reporting

The senior site engineer will report to the Lead – Campus Development at IIHS and will be required to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of internal teams and external individuals/ organisations, and students.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A professional degree in Civil Engineering with 7-10 years of relevant experience;
  • Technical skills:
    • Site supervision and inspection;
    • Interpreting plans and specifications;
    • Quality assurance and control;
    • Health and safety compliance;
    • Troubleshooting site issues;
  • Project management:
    • Project planning;
    • Scheduling and monitoring;
    • Budgeting and reporting;
    • Documentation;
    • Change management;
  • Soft skills:
    • Leadership and team management;
    • Effective verbal and written communication;
    • Conflict resolution;
    • Negotiation and stakeholder engagement;

    • AutoCAD;

Location

This position is based in Bengaluru and may entail travel to other locations in India.
