Role Overview

The Senior Production Manager – Publishing & Prepress will be responsible for managing and overseeing the complete production lifecycle of publishing projects, ensuring timely delivery, superior quality output, and cost-efficient operations. The role involves leading prepress functions, coordinating with internal departments and external vendors, maintaining strict quality standards, optimizing production workflows, and driving continuous improvements in efficiency and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage end-to-end publishing production processes from manuscript to final print and digital output.
• Oversee prepress operations including typesetting, art, design, layout, pagination, proofreading coordination, and final file preparation.
• Ensure compliance with publishing standards, print specifications, and client requirements.
• Ensure all files meet industry standards such as PDF/X, ICC profiles, and print-ready guidelines.
• Identify and resolve technical issues related to artwork, formatting, file compatibility, and printing quality.
• Conduct team performance reviews and implement training and development plans.
• Collaborate with editorial, design, QA, and client servicing teams to ensure smooth project execution.
• Negotiate production costs, control budgets, and optimize resource utilization.
• Implement and monitor quality assurance processes and SOPs to ensure consistency and accuracy.
• Conduct regular quality audits of production outputs and address any deviations.
• Ensure compliance with client-specific guidelines and international publishing standards.
• Introduce and implement automation tools and innovative technologies to enhance prepress and production efficiency.

Experience

• Minimum of 12 years of experience in publishing production and prepress operations.
• At least 5 years of experience in a senior managerial or leadership role within the publishing industry.

Technical Skills

• Expert knowledge of prepress workflows and print production processes.
• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat).
• Strong understanding of color management, typography, and layout principles.
• Familiarity with XML, ePub, and PDF workflows for digital publishing.
• Experience working with workflow management tools and MIS systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in Printing or Publishing Technology.
• Experience working with international publishing standards and global clients.
• Knowledge of accessibility standards such as WCAG and PDF/UA is an added advantage.
