Job Overview:

The Product Owner will work closely with the Programme Delivery and business owners to manage end-to-end project delivery. This includes compiling business cases, facilitating development triage, managing stakeholder communications, and ensuring that projects align with the Business Technology roadmap. The ideal candidate will bring strong project management skills, experience with Agile methodologies, and the ability to work in cross-functional teams to drive successful outcomes.

Role & responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Head of Programme Delivery and relevant business owners to compile business cases, outlining justifications, benefits, success criteria, and assessing risks, assumptions, and costs for presentation to the Steering Committee.
  • Actively participate in Development Triage meetings to evaluate the benefits and justifications of development requests. Provide objective input to determine the suitability of development requests for acceptance or rejection, and own actions to gather further information or progress requests as needed.
  • Provide regular, timely, and accurate updates to stakeholders on project progress using appropriate communication channels. Align changes in priorities or timescales with the Business Technology roadmap.
  • Produce and maintain project documentation in accordance with agreed-upon methodologies.
  • Identify and work with internal and external stakeholders to elicit, capture, and prioritize requirements. Define the scope of delivery using relevant prioritization techniques.
  • Write detailed user stories and define acceptance criteria for initiatives, incorporating non-functional or technical requirements. Obtain stakeholder sign-off and collaborate with development teams to ensure the stories are manageable within sprints.
  • Identify, evaluate, and manage project risks, using risk management techniques and raising concerns with stakeholders when necessary.
  • Provide support and project management guidance to the development delivery team, including third-party liaison where required.
  • Facilitate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) on behalf of the business. Coordinate and monitor internal and external UAT, triaging defects or issues until they are resolved.
  • Adhere to and promote project management principles to ensure compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contribute to governance processes and ensure initiatives follow defined project management gates.
  • Attend and actively participate in Sprint ceremonies (daily stand-ups, sizing, sprint demos, retrospectives, planning) and other relevant meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Programme Delivery to ensure alignment of projects with the Business Technology roadmap and contribute to its production for broader business visibility.
  • Support the Senior Product Owner/Business Analyst in applying consistent best practices across the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).

Preferred candidate profile

  • 5+ relevant years of experience as Product Owner
  • Proficient in handling stakeholders preferably UK/US markets
  • Preferrable experience in the motor finance/insurance related products
  • Exposure to the full software development life cycle and agile development practices.
  • Experience coordinating/managing the delivery of software applications and systems.
  • Experience of requirements gathering and prioritization with ability to translate these into deliverable user stories.
  • Understanding of project management techniques and disciplines.
  • Experience of co-ordinating/managing development teams through the SDLC.
  • Experience of co-ordinating/managing cross-functional stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Business justification identification and project initiation knowledge.
  • Proficient in use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Jira experience or similar tooling preferable.
  • Working knowledge of projects methodologies and project management principles would be advantageous.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional in challenging situations, ensuring empathy with others whilst giving messages clearly
