Purpose of the position This position will lead the Quality function at the Coimbatore Plant, with responsibility for the Quality team. In an environment that accepts nothing but the highest quality, the Quality Manager will be responsible for providing clear leadership on Business Management Systems, customer and supplier relationships, continuous improvement and the management of audit programs. The individual will work proactively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve quality targets and business goals, developing a plan that strives towards a zero-defect environment. To ensure success as a Quality Manager, you should be highly competent Leader with strong knowledge of Business Management System, technical skills in metallurgical laboratory techniques and analytical skills in metallurgy. This position reports to the local Plant Manager and to Corporate Quality Director. Principal responsibilities: Quality Culture Embed a culture of right first time”, familiar with Zero defect mentality. Promote customer focus. Engage and collaborate with engineering, operations, and other support functions. Challenge the norms and seek improvements. Governance Ensure all processes have the correct procedures/work instructions in place Review procedures/specifications/requirements to ensure effectiveness and compliance Report on quality metrics on a monthly basis, manage customer score cards Maintain the management system to ensure compliance with AS9100 / ISO 9001 / Nadcap / and other specifications/standards Monitor and review and maintain QMS to ensure adequacy Implement and maintain a system of auditing the facility and periodic calibration of test, measuring equipment and tools. Liaise with vendors on purchase and calibration of Quality related equipment, gauges and consumables. Train and mentor team members on quality standards, policies, and best practices Assurance Manage both internal and external audits. Ensure the audit schedule is maintained and meets requirements. Ensure that all procedures are followed. Lead the inspection team and laboratory team, prioritise workload when needed. Communicate with customers, external auditors, and suppliers. Conduct regular QMS audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement in the process Initiate the corrective and preventative action for all the audit findings for adequacy and timeliness and manages the closeout of all corrective and preventative actions with team Ensure the all the corporate & applicable standard requirement compliance to avoid Quality escapes Improvement Develop a culture of continuous improvement and lead improvement initiatives. Lead zero defect activities. Lead operational excellence activities. Team management Development and coaching of quality personnel. Ensure adequate staffing levels. Review, implement and update company records e.g. training matrices, performance reviews, risk assessments. Ensure effective flow down of information. Communication and flow down of corporate quality messages. Consistently promote high standards. Support sales team when required by working together to liaise with external customers and stakeholders to deliver timely corrective actions. Reporting/Performance Management: Ensure reporting of all hazards, incidents and near misses Ensure all reliability events & all supply failures Ensure daily production & utility consumption Qualifications/experience Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Materials Engineering with minimum 10 years’ experience. Experience in a quality environment that is demanding in a relevant industry, preferably safety critical. Proven Auditing skills and regulatory experience; Lead auditor preferably but Internal auditor is a must. Proven record of Leadership and team management/development Proven experience in and application of Lean Manufacturing methodology. Strong problem solving, analytical skills. They will have proven experience leading, motivating and developing a team and will lead from the front. They will be comfortable with management of the multiple projects in a fast-changing environment. Knowledge on special process such as Thermal Spray Coating, NDT & grinding, knowledge on NADCAP checklist requirements for the same will be added advantage Experience in handling Aviation / Automotive customers Knowledge of geometric dimensional inspections & tolerances (GD&T) principles Knowledge on preparing the quality plan, FMEA, PPAP / FAI documents etc.
