Role & responsibilities The Port Operations Manager in Coal Transportation is responsible for overseeing all aspects of coal handling, loading, unloading, and transportation operations at the port. This role involves managing logistics, ensuring efficient and safe operations, coordinating with stakeholders, and meeting environmental and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in port operations, logistics, and the coal transportation industry 1. Port Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day port operations related to coal handling, including loading, unloading, stockpiling, and loading vessels. Ensure the efficient and timely handling of coal shipments to meet customer and contract deadlines. Manage the coordination between different teams, including stevedores, terminal operators, and logistics teams. Ensure smooth operations of the port facilities, including coal storage areas, conveyor systems, and loading docs. Logistics and Transportation: Oversee rail, ship coordination for seamless transport operations. Develop and monitor schedules for incoming and outgoing coal shipments. Implement and maintain inventory control systems to track stockpiles and shipments.. Team Leadership and Training: Lead, manage, and supervise the port operations team, ensuring that the workforce is adequately trained and follows best practices. Provide direction and guidance to operations staff, offering support in resolving issues related to coal handling or logistics. Stakeholder and Client Management: Act as the primary point of contact for key stakeholders, including customers, government authorities, suppliers, and contractors. Maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring that their needs are met and resolving any operational issues that may arise. Collaborate with senior management and commercial teams to ensure port services align with business objectives and contractual requirements. Operational Efficiency and Cost Control: Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost reduction while maintaining high standards of service. Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess port performance and identify areas for improvement. Develop and implement strategies for optimizing throughput and reducing operational downtime. Reporting and Documentation: Prepare regular reports on port operations, performance, and any issues encountered during coal handling. Maintain accurate records of shipments, inventories, and operational incidents for audit and compliance purposes. Preferred candidate profile Minimum of 15Years of experience in port operations, logistics management, or transportation, preferably in the coal industry. Job essentials: Strong understanding of port operations, logistics, and coal transportation processes. Leadership and team management skills with the ability to manage large teams and diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of safety regulations, environmental laws, and compliance standards in port operations. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing conditions in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with clients, regulatory authorities, and internal teams.
