Senior Manager, Digital Data Development

Our Chief Data Office also known as our Data Intelligence & Analytics (DIA) is focused on driving innovation through optimizing how we leverage data to drive strategy and create a new business model – disrupting the insurance market. As we develop an enterprise-wide data and digital strategy that moves us toward greater focus on the use of data and data-driven insights, we are seeking an Associate Scientist for our Quality Engineering team. The Associate Scientist sits next to our Business Partners and test our AXIOM platform according to our stakeholders needs.

What you’ll be DOING

What will your essential responsibilities include?

  • Test Management & Strategy Development: Capable of designing and executing comprehensive functional and regression testing strategies, acting as a Test Program Manager or Architect to ensure deliverables meet quality standards.
  • Advanced SQL & Data Query Optimization: Proficient in developing complex SQL queries and stored procedures, with a focus on identifying inefficiencies, optimizing query performance, and reducing costs.
  • Data Warehouse Support & Understanding: Deep knowledge of data warehouse applications, including supporting ongoing maintenance, understanding customer experience needs, and ensuring data integrity and quality.
  • Technology Awareness & Innovation: Up-to-date with the latest advancements in data warehouse technologies and testing methodologies, with a mindset geared towards automation and continuous improvement.
  • Test Automation & Evangelism: Demonstrates an automation-first approach, advocating for automation best practices within the team and driving automation initiatives.
  • Business User Interface Testing: Skilled in testing business-facing interfaces, such as BI dashboards, validating KPIs and key measures from a user perspective to ensure alignment with business requirements.
  • Data Management & Load Testing: Hands-on experience with data load processes, data management, and setting up testing environments in non-production settings.
  • Data Obfuscation & Test Data Management: Knowledge of data obfuscation techniques and experience creating cleansed test datasets to support business testing without compromising data security.
  • Incident & Problem Resolution: Robust problem-solving skills, capable of diagnosing issues, liaising effectively with stakeholders, and working towards optimal solutions.
  • Test Architecture & Tool Evaluation: Ability to develop test strategies, frameworks, and architecture setups for tool evaluations and pilot projects.
  • Defect Management & Stakeholder Engagement: Skilled in triaging, prioritizing, and communicating defect status to stakeholders, including business partners, product owners, development, and infrastructure teams.
  • Resource & Test Environment Planning: Experience in strategizing testing resource allocation and managing test environments, including setting up data sets such as Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD).
  • System Integration Testing (SIT): Proven ability to develop and execute SIT test plans, scripts, and procedures; analyze test results; and ensure system integration quality.
  • Documentation & Standards Development: Experience reviewing and developing testing documentation, standards, and criteria for success, ensuring consistent quality across projects.
  • Agile & Automation Testing Expertise: Familiar with Agile-SCRUM methodologies; hands-on experience with automation testing tools such as Selenium, Cucumber, or QTP, and building automation frameworks.
  • Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Ability to work collaboratively with developers and test leads to improve testability and overall quality processes.
  • Leadership & Release Accountability: Demonstrates accountability for ensuring each software release is fit-for-purpose, with a focus on delivering high-quality, reliable solutions to customers.

You will report to Lead UAT.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Business & Insurance Acumen: Knowledge of insurance industry processes, UAT, and system integration testing within the insurance domain.
  • Business & Process Improvement: Experienced in leading process simplification projects, improving testing and operational efficiencies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Effectively liaises with stakeholders, including product owners and business units, to ensure quality and resolve issues.
  • Data Warehousing & Cloud-Based Services: Hands-on experience with SQL, CosmosDB, Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), SQL Data Warehouse (Synapse), and other cloud-based data services.
  • Data Governance & Controls: Knowledge of data quality, error diagnosis, load configuration, and controls to ensure data integrity during deployment and load processes.
  • Testing & Automation: Relevant years of testing experience, including automation, API testing, UI testing, and non-functional testing types.
  • Development & Integration: Robust developer mindset, capable of integrating testing within Agile teams, understanding architecture layers, and supporting deployment readiness.
  • Process & Load Management: Skilled in load setup, configuration, error diagnosis, throttling, and troubleshooting in cloud and data warehouse environments.
  • Software Architecture Knowledge: Familiar with various software architectures and how they impact testing and integration.
  • Problem-Solving & Incident Management: Demonstrates effective diagnostic skills, effectively diagnosing errors, load issues, and system discrepancies.
