Senior Linux Server Administrator

Job Description

The Senior Linux Server Administrator is a highly skilled IT professional responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and security of a company's Linux server infrastructure, including installation, configuration, performance optimization, troubleshooting complex issues, and ensuring high availability and system stability. They often lead technical projects, mentor junior administrators, and collaborate with other IT teams to implement solutions that align with business needs. Key Responsibilities: 1. Server Administration Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE). Manage system updates, patching, and OS upgrades to ensure stability. Optimize system performance through tuning, resource allocation, and monitoring. Manage storage solutions, including SAN, NAS, and LVM-based setups. Ensure system scalability and high availability using clustering and load balancing. 2. Security Management Implement and maintain security best practices, including firewall rules, SELinux, and AppArmor. Perform vulnerability assessments and apply necessary patches. Manage Identity & Access Management (IAM), RBAC, and least privilege principles. Ensure compliance with industry security standards (ISO 27001, NIST, CIS benchmarks). 3. Troubleshooting and Support Diagnose and resolve complex system, network, and performance issues. Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for incidents and implement corrective actions. Provide L3/L4 technical support and collaborate with internal IT teams. Monitor system health using tools like Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus. 4. Automation and Scripting Automate system administration tasks using Bash, Python, Ansible, or PowerShell . Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform or CloudFormation. Optimize server provisioning and configuration management using Ansible, Puppet, or Chef . 5. Team Leadership and Mentorship Guide and mentor junior Linux administrators. Lead technical projects, including server migrations, upgrades, and cloud adoption. Document best practices, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
