Role & responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
- ICN will be carry out ongoing day to day activities of surveillance of Infection control by regular visits to essential hospital departments such as wards, clinics, operating rooms, ICUs, Laboratory, House Keeping, Catering , Engineering , Pharmacy wash Areas, toilers etc..
- To provide clinical advice and support to nurse and non- clinical personnel on infection control issues
- Explain and interpret microbiology reports to relevant nursing staff and advice on isolation techniques generally and in specific clinical situations
- Identify potential infection hazards and suggests appropriate remedial measures to relevant personnel
- Follow the Infection Control Committee protocols to identify investigate and control our breaks of infection
- Participate in informal and formal teaching programs for nurses and other paramedical staff
Bio Medical Waste Management.
- Ensures proper segregation as per guidelines
- Ensures proper transportation
- Ensures timely pick up from the vendor
- Upkeep and maintenance of the out room
- Coordination with the house keeping department and GDAs
Environmental surveillance
- Scheduled collection of samples from different areas of the hospital
- Remedial action wherever needed
- Coordination with the BME and engineering department for plugging gaps and regular interactions
- Hand hygiene surveillance program
- Overseeing proper usage of hand hygiene equipment
- Supervising terminal cleaning and cleaning after infective cases
- Emphasizing on the protocols in dealing with highly infectious patients
NSI:
- Ensure documentation / REPORT
- Follow up
- Methods/training to bring down NSI(target: 50% reduction in one year going to 0 incidence in the next year
Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI): CRBSI, VAP, UTI, SSI
- All HAI cases to be tracked, RCA done and report submitted within one week of reporting
- Tracking of patients on devices, chasing each culture and filing of reports
- SSI and other infections to be tracked from OPD as well
Notifiable diseases:
- Tracking of State and Max Health Care list of notifiable diseases in IPD and OPD.
- To follow contemporary guidelines as issued by authorities for notifiable diseases.
Antibiotic Policy:
- Coordinate with the microbiology department for timely release of antibiogram
- Ensuring proper implementation of local antibiotic policy
- Tracking of antibiotic usage in IPD
- Dissemination of knowledge to all physicians on resistance pattern and common microbes in the Unit
Educational Responsibilities
- Develops own knowledge base, ensuring practice is evidence based and contributes to the enhancement of patient care.
- Is a mentor /learning resources for learners/Junior staff.
- Acts as a reflective practitioner, questioning clinical practice.
- Participates in reviewing polices and procedures to improve outcomes and the quality of service provided.
- Actively participates in staff learning and development programs.
- Develop modules for physicians, house keeping, nursing and paramedical staff.
- Quarterly calendar for training to be prepared.
- All training sessions to be documented with list of people attending them.
- Floor training module to be developed.
Documentation:
- All relevant HIC data to be compiled on a daily/weekly/monthly basis as per decided protocol.
- Minutes of ICC, central and local, to be filed within one week of the meeting
- Statistical analysis of all data on a monthly basis.
- Relevant data, reports for government agencies, administrative purposes and for central ICC to be filed for ready reference.
- Scanning and filing of all important data.
Induction Support and Teaching
- Facilitates the induction and orientation of staff assigned to the clinical area.
- Ensures all members of staff receive support and mentorship.
- Supervises and teaches less experienced staff nurses and student nurses to be effective in their areas of work.
Professional
- Accepts personal accountability for own practice as a Registered Nurse and to work at all times within the code of conduct of Nursing.
- Adheres at all times to the Hospital Policies and Procedures.
Preferred candidate profile
Nursing Audit Score >= 100%.
Patient positive feedback (TCEQ) >= 100%.
Adherence to training process & 90% compliance with training mandays.
Atleast 80% of position in and above Charge Nurse level to be filled from within
Reporting the Occupational & Environmental Issues to HOD.
Education & Experience
- Diploma in GNM/ BSc in Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years of post qualification experience.
- (for specialty/ super specialty areas minimum 2 years experience in respective work area shall be required)
