Database Support Lead – SME Location - IIT Madras Research Park, Tharamani Chennai Overview We are seeking an experienced Database Support Lead with strong technical expertise in PostgreSQL database management tools and C/C++ programming. This role will be responsible for leading database support initiatives, developing and optimizing PostgreSQL database management tools, and providing technical leadership to the support team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with PostgreSQL internals and an understanding of open-source database ecosystems. Responsibilities Design and develop efficient tools for PostgreSQL database management, monitoring, and analysis using C/C++ Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, adherence to coding standards, and identification of potential issues or improvements Optimize database tools for performance, scalability, and reliability to meet operational demands Integrate tools with existing systems, development environments, workflows, and CI/CD pipelines Create and maintain technical documentation, including design specifications, user guides, and API references Monitor and implement emerging technologies and best practices in database tools development Identify and implement process improvements for database support operations Lead and mentor junior team members, providing technical guidance and performance feedback Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure database tools meet organizational requirements Troubleshoot and resolve complex PostgreSQL database issues, ensuring minimal downtime Participate in on-call rotations to support critical database systems Contribute to capacity planning and performance forecasting for database infrastructure Apply knowledge of PostgreSQL internals to develop specialized monitoring and troubleshooting tools Stay current with PostgreSQL version updates, features, and extension capabilities Required Qualifications 6+ years of experience in database support, tools development, or related field Strong programming skills in C and C++ Demonstrated experience in designing and optimizing database tools for performance and reliability Experience conducting code reviews and providing technical guidance Proficiency in creating and maintaining technical documentation Experience in database troubleshooting and problem-solving Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL architecture, components, and internals Experience with PostgreSQL management, monitoring, and performance tuning Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience) Preferred Skills Experience leading small teams or mentoring junior staff Knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies in database tools development Familiarity with development environments, workflows, and CI/CD pipelines Strong communication and technical leadership skills Experience with PostgreSQL extensions and community tools (pgAdmin, pg_stat_statements, pgBadger) Knowledge of database monitoring, performance tuning, and optimization techniques Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, Bash) for database automation Experience with version control systems (Git) and issue tracking tools Understanding of database security best practices Experience with cloud database platforms (AWS RDS for PostgreSQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL, GCP Cloud SQL) Knowledge of or contributions to open-source database projects or communities Understanding of open-source development processes and collaboration models Show more Show less
