Senior CAD Technician - OHL

Job Description

As an Overhead Line CAD Technician, you will drafting of a range of Overhead Line Circuits at voltages ranging from 132kV to 400kV. To act in a senior technical capacity in producing WSP engineering-related project drawings relating to for overhead line Transmission & Distribution, Renewable (Onshore & Offshore wind/ Solar), BESS projects. This includes (but not limited to): Create detailed engineering drawings for Overhead line routing layout, wire clearance diagrams, scaffold clearance check drawings, Downlead arrangement for towers, georeferenced layout and set drawings. Create detailed engineering profile drawings for overhead line routing. PLS CAD & PLS Tower knowledge is an added advantage. Create detailed engineering drawings for Extra High Voltage (EHV) projects, covering both Air Insulated Substations (AIS) and Gas Insulated Substations (GIS), ranging from 11kV up to 400kV Engineering design is an added advantage. Preparation and development of EC&I deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, loop drawings, cable block diagrams, plant layouts, cable routing, cable containment design and switchgear configurations using both 2D and 3D software packages; Develop darwings to support detailed engineering, such as Land Utilisation Plan, Elevations, Above and Below Grade Conduit layouts, Grounding layout & it’s connection details, Lighting and Lightning protection with respective details, Bill of Materials, CDM layouts. Facilitate coordination of design activities across various departments, including Civil/Structural, Networks, and primary engineering team. Conduct design reviews, participate in virtual meetings, and collaborate closely with clients. Assist with preparing drawings and revising existing engineering drawings of basic components from specific sketches or layouts. Responsible for adhering to company and client drafting standards and procedures. Responsible for adhering to the drafting practices of selected discipline. Assist in drafting design and documentation for various projects. Coordinate with team members and monitor project schedules, ensuring submissions meet high-quality standards. Maintain compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of substation and electrical system design. Collaborate with WSP UK office on design activities. Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members. Develop and enhance processes, tools, and potentially implement new technologies into the design process. Periodic Quality checks to be conducted for other engineers & designers. Exhibit ingenuity, foresight, and wise decision-making skills in proactively identifying and resolving challenges. Contribute to the progress and growth of departmental tools and workflows aimed at improving the effectiveness of design processes, specification development, and project implementation. Engage in training sessions and meetings dedicated to addressing targeted organizational initiatives.Qualifications Possess a Diploma or ITI in electrical engineering from an accredited institution. Have a minimum of five years and a maximum of twelve years of experience in the field of Substation Transmission & Distribution, Renewable (Onshore & Offshore wind/ Solar), BESS projects. Preferably familiar with UK projects. Experience of working in a lead substation design role on National Grid Electricity Transmission projects (or other UK utilities like SSEN, SPEN etc.) in the UK will be an added advantage. Experience in Onshore wind, Offshore wind, Renewable (solar) and BESS projects is preferred. Familiarity with 3D tools (MicroStation) for Engineering design is desirable. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Demonstrated leadership skills. Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
