SDE 2 - Backend (Ruby on Rails)

Role Overview: As a Software Development Engineer III at Hiver, you will have a critical role to play in building and scaling the product to thousands of users globally. The company processes over 5 million emails daily for thousands of active users on the Hiver platform. You will work on complex technical challenges such as making the architecture scalable, building frameworks to monitor and improve system performance, and enhancing reliability and performance. Your responsibilities will include coding, designing, developing, and maintaining new product features, as well as improving existing services for performance and scalability. Key Responsibilities: - Build a new API for users or iterate on existing APIs in monolith applications. - Develop event-driven architecture using highly scalable message brokers like Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc. - Create microservices based on performance and efficiency needs. - Construct frameworks to monitor and enhance system performance. - Upgrade systems to securely store sensitive data. - Design, build, and maintain APIs, services, and systems across Hiver's engineering teams. - Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack. - Collaborate with engineers across the company to build new features at large-scale. - Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes. Qualifications Required: - Minimum 4+ years of experience in scaling backend systems. - Knowledge of Ruby on Rails (RoR) is a plus, with hands-on experience in at least one project. - Experience in microservice and event-driven architecture. - Proficiency in technologies like Kafka for building data pipelines with high data volume. - Ability and enjoyment in building Lean APIs and exceptional backend services. - Strong problem-solving skills and high-quality code writing ability. - Extensive experience with SQL Databases, understanding of NoSQL databases and Caches. - Deployment experience on cloud platforms, preferably AWS, but experience with GCP, Azure is also valued. - Accountability and commitment to maintaining high standards when working with production systems. - Dedication to project success involving various technologies and systems. - Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment with diverse stakeholders.
