Safety Officer

A Safety Officer plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and healthy work environment, protecting employees from potential hazards, and minimizing risks. Their efforts contribute to increased employee morale, reduced absenteeism, and improved productivity. Additionally, they are essential in ensuring that the organization is in compliance with safety laws and regulations.

Role & responsibilities

• Workplace Safety Inspections:

  Conduct regular inspections of the workplace to identify potential hazards, unsafe conditions, and safety compliance issues. This may involve inspecting machinery, equipment, work areas, and employee practices.

• Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment:

  Identify potential safety hazards and assess the level of risk associated with each hazard. Implement measures to control and mitigate risks.

• Safety Policies and Procedures:

  Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations.

• Training and Education:

  Provide safety training to employees on various topics, including emergency procedures, proper use of equipment, handling hazardous materials, and general safety practices.

• Accident Investigation:

  Conduct thorough investigations into workplace accidents, incidents, or near-misses. Analyse the root causes and recommend preventive measures to avoid similar occurrences.

• Safety Communication:

  Promote a culture of safety by communicating safety messages and reminders to all employees through various channels, such as posters, emails, meetings, and safety bulletins.

• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):

  Ensure that employees have access to appropriate personal protective equipment and that they understand how to use it properly.

• Emergency Preparedness:

  Develop and implement emergency response plans for various scenarios, such as fires, natural disasters, medical emergencies, and evacuations.

• Safety Audits and Compliance:

  Conduct internal safety audits to assess compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Coordinate external safety audits as necessary.

• Record Keeping:

  Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety-related incidents, inspections, training sessions, and corrective actions.

• Safety Committee:

  Collaborate with the safety committee, if present, to address safety concerns and drive continuous improvement in safety practices.

• Safety Culture Promotion:

  Foster a positive safety culture within the organization by encouraging employee involvement, feedback, and suggestions for safety improvement.

• Regulatory Compliance:

  Keep up-to-date with relevant safety regulations and ensure the organization's compliance with all applicable laws and standards.

• Incident Reporting and Follow-up:

  Establish protocols for reporting safety incidents and follow up on corrective actions to prevent recurrences.

• Liaison with Authorities:

  Coordinate with local regulatory authorities and external agencies on safety matters and inspections.

Preferred candidate profile

Candidate must be qualified any diploma in Fire & Safety.
