Safety Manager

Position Overview:

He/She is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring health, safety and environmental (HSE) policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance with statutory regulations and promote a culture of safety across the plant. The role involves risk assessment, training, audits and continuous improvement initiatives to maintain a safe workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in line with statutory and corporate requirements.
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification, and job safety analysis across plant operations.
• Ensure compliance with local and national safety regulations (Factories Act, OSHA, Pollution Control Board, etc.).
• Lead incident and accident investigations; identify root causes and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Organize and conduct safety training programs, fire drills, mock evacuations, and toolbox talks for employees and contract workers.
• Maintain and review safety documentation including permits, PPE records, and audit reports.
• Liaise with external agencies such as statutory bodies, auditors, and local authorities regarding safety compliance and inspections.
• Drive initiatives for continuous improvement in safety performance through behaviour based safety programs.
• Monitor implementation of waste management, environmental protection, and sustainability measures.
• Ensure availability and upkeep of firefighting systems, safety equipment, and emergency response infrastructure.
• Prepare and present monthly safety performance reports and key metrics to management.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of EHS regulations, Factory Act, and ISO standards (ISO 45001, ISO 14001).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and training skills.
• Proactive and detail-oriented approach to risk management.
• Ability to handle emergency situations with calm and efficiency.
• Proficiency in MS Office and EHS management systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelors Degree / Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical preferred).
• Post Diploma / Certification in Industrial Safety (recognized by State Technical Board or equivalent).
• 812 years of experience in EHS or Safety Management, preferably in FMCG / Food / Chemical / Manufacturing industries.
• Experience in managing multi-shift operations and contract workforce safety will be an added advantage.
