Job Summary:

The Night RMO is responsible for providing continuous medical care to inpatients during night hours, ensuring patient safety, attending emergencies, and coordinating with consultants as required. The role involves both clinical decision-making and documentation responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Care

-Monitor and manage inpatients admitted under various specialties during night hours.

-Attend and stabilize emergency and critical cases.

-Assess new admissions, initiate investigations, and begin treatment as per protocols.

-Provide immediate medical attention to deteriorating patients and inform consultants when necessary.

2. Emergency Management:

-Respond promptly to Code Blue and Code Red calls.

-Perform resuscitation procedures (BLS/ACLS).

-Manage medico-legal and casualty cases as per hospital policy.

3. Clinical Coordination:

-Communicate with on-call consultants regarding patient condition changes.

-Ensure smooth handover to the morning RMO/consultant team with detailed documentation.

-Coordinate with nursing and paramedical staff for efficient patient care.

4. Documentation:

-Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including progress notes and treatment orders.

-Complete discharge summaries or interim notes as needed.

-Record all clinical incidents and report to the medical administrator.

5. Medication and Orders:

-Review and authorize treatment orders, IV medications, and lab investigations.

-Ensure rational and safe use of drugs.

-Supervise administration of high-risk medications.

6. Supportive Duties:

-Oversee compliance with infection control and hospital policies during night shifts.

-Ensure proper documentation of deaths and medico-legal procedures if applicable.

-Maintain readiness for emergencies in ICU, wards, and ER.

Qualifications and Experience:

-MBBS from a recognized university (mandatory).

-Registration with the Medical Council (State or NMC).

-Preferably 13 years of experience as a Duty Medical Officer / RMO in a multispecialty or tertiary care hospital.

-BLS / ACLS certification preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

-Sound clinical judgment and decision-making ability.

-Strong communication and teamwork skills.

-Ability to handle medical emergencies independently.

-Familiarity with hospital information systems and EMR.
