Purpose

CEEW uses large-scale micro datasets published by the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO) and other organisations to analyse and comment on the (in)equitable impact of climate transition in India on workers, firms, and households. Additionally, we frequently experiment with novel methodologies in causal inference and machine learning to synthesise these large datasets. We seek to hire a suitable candidate to assist in analysing and visualising these datasets. The candidate must be proficient in using Python and become comfortable with Large Language Models. The candidate will also be expected to critically analyse the policies and programmes related to climate, either directly or indirectly, and engage extensively with government, industry and civil society stakeholders at the national and state levels.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Extract and process raw data from NSSO surveys across multiple themes and years. End-to-end ownership of data processing will be expected
  • Collate (from literature), understand, and replicate robust methodologies for analysing contemporary issues in India.
  • Maintain strong documentation of the procedures and learnings.
  • Maintain clean and reproducible repositories.
  • Help in internal dissemination and capacity building of teams in using large datasets.
  • Contribute to high-quality first drafts of blogs, opinion pieces, policy memos, reports and papers for journal submission.
  • Assist the team in disseminating research findings to a diverse set of stakeholders through bilateral briefings and high-quality research reports, papers, memos, opinion pieces, videos, etc.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in economics, statistics, or related disciplines.
  • Strong research background with an adequate understanding of research methods and quantitative techniques for data analysis.
  • Sound understanding of India's changing landscape of energy access, use and clean energy transition.

Key Skills

  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills.
  • Proficiency in Python and other programming languages for data analysis.
  • Past experience in handling at least one of the NSSO surveys.
  • Strong and effective written and verbal communication skills.

Personality

  • Willingness to learn new research and project management skills.
  • Striving for rigour in research and quality in work output.
  • Ability to drive research with minimum assistance.
  • Ability to dig into details while keeping the broader objectives and big picture in view.
  • Ability to work across teams in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment.
