Radiation Safety Officer

As an individual responsible for ensuring safe operation of the specified device, your key responsibilities include: - Implementing the safe procedure for operating the device upon first-time receipt, ensuring that the source containment is intact and in acceptable condition, and that the radiation dose rate profile meets specified limits. - Verifying the correct and safe operation of safety features such as the shutter, source assembly, and radiation warning signs. - Ensuring the device functions satisfactorily as per the manufacturer's instructions and that the gauge's location is not altered without Competent Authority approval. You are also required to: - Stay near the gauge except when necessary, keeping the number of operators to a minimum. - Display radiation warning signs in multiple languages, lock sources in shielded positions when not in use, and conduct periodic shutter checks. - Perform swipe tests on radioactive sources at regular intervals, maintain records of radiation protection surveys, and keep all necessary tools in good condition. - Instruct co-employees on radiation symbols, reporting procedures for working defects, and the proper use of personal protective equipment. - Ensure pregnant workers notify relevant parties for necessary modifications, conduct radiation protection surveys during device installation, and issue and collect personnel monitors. Additionally, your role may entail other responsibilities assigned over time.
