Job Description

The Purchase Head is responsible for leading and managing the procurement function, ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of materials, equipment, and services required for the organization. This role oversees vendor management, sourcing strategy, contract negotiations, and compliance with organizational and industry standards. The Purchase Head ensures procurement operations support business goals while maintaining transparency, efficiency, and quality.



Key Responsibilities


1.⁠ ⁠Procurement Strategy & Planning


Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with organizational goals.


Forecast procurement needs based on production plans, sales projections, and inventory levels.


Optimize procurement processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.



2.⁠ ⁠Vendor & Supplier Management


Identify, evaluate, and onboard new vendors.


Maintain strong relationships with existing suppliers.


Conduct supplier performance evaluations and ensure adherence to quality and delivery standards.


Negotiate contracts, pricing, and service terms to secure the best value.



3.⁠ ⁠Purchasing Operations


Oversee the complete procurement cycle: requisition, sourcing, negotiation, purchase order creation, delivery follow-up, and payment coordination.


Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all purchasing activities.


Manage imports/exports when applicable, including customs and logistics coordination.



4.⁠ ⁠Cost Control & Budget Management


Monitor procurement budgets and implement cost-saving initiatives.


Analyze pricing trends, market conditions, and procurement data for informed decision-making.


Identify opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).



5.⁠ ⁠Compliance & Risk Management


Ensure compliance with company policies, legal regulations, and industry standards.


Mitigate supply chain risks by maintaining alternate supplier options.


Develop and enforce procurement policies and best practices.



6.⁠ ⁠Team Leadership


Lead, mentor, and supervise the procurement team.


Assign tasks, provide guidance, and conduct performance reviews.


Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.



Required Qualifications


Education-Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field.



Experience


8–15 years of progressive experience in procurement or supply chain.


Minimum 3–5 years in a managerial or leadership role.


Experience in — (industry: manufacturing, engineering, etc.) is an advantage.



Skills & Competencies


Strong negotiation and analytical skills.


In-depth knowledge of procurement processes, contract management, and vendor relations.


Proficiency in ERP systems


Excellent communication, leadership, and decision-making abilities.


Strong understanding of supply chain principles and market dynamics.
