Job Description

Head Procurement / Purchase (Construction)

Job Objective

To lead and manage the complete procurement function ensuring timely sourcing of materials, equipment, and services with a focus on cost efficiency, quality standards, and vendor relationship management for large-scale construction projects.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement Planning & Strategy

  • Plan and execute procurement activities across multiple construction projects.
  • Formulate sourcing and cost optimisation strategies aligned with project schedules and budgets.

Sourcing & Purchasing

  • Identify, evaluate, and finalise vendors based on quality, reliability, and commercial terms.
  • Develop alternate local sources for imported materials to achieve cost savings.
  • Handle procurement of construction materials (cement, steel, RMC, aggregates, sanitary/electrical items, safety materials, etc.) and capital goods (RMC plants, cranes, pumps, STP, DG sets, elevators, etc.).

Negotiation & Contracting

  • Analyze quotations and negotiate best possible prices, terms, and delivery schedules.
  • Draft and finalize vendor contracts ensuring compliance with company and statutory norms.

Purchase Order & Budget Management

  • Issue and manage purchase orders through ERP/SAP systems.
  • Track budgets, payments, and material flow to maintain cost control and financial discipline.
  • Drive value engineering and explore cost-saving alternatives.

Vendor & Supplier Management

  • Maintain long-term relationships with vendors ensuring timely delivery and service.
  • Coordinate with suppliers for material dispatch, invoicing, and payment clearance.
  • Manage vendor evaluation, classification, and database updates.

Inventory & Quality Control

  • Monitor stock levels and plan timely replenishment to prevent project delays.
  • Ensure compliance of materials and equipment with required quality standards.

Risk & Compliance

  • Identify risks in the supply chain and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to internal procurement policies and legal standards.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain procurement records, purchase orders, contracts, and reports.
  • Prepare quarterly audit reports on purchase transactions and stock movements.

Skills & Competencies

Functional / Technical:

  • Expertise in construction procurement, vendor development, and contract management.
  • Sound knowledge of ERP/SAP procurement modules.
  • Strong grasp of material management, cost control, and supply chain operations.

Behavioral:

  • Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
