Job Title-
Purchase / Procurement Officer
Location- Kolkata , West Bengal Head Office (Ambica Industries)
Reporting To- Procurement Manager / Head of Supply Chain
Job Summary- We are seeking a diligent and proactive Procurement Officer with at least 3 years of experience in purchase / procurement within the chemical manufacturing sector. The candidate will be responsible for sourcing raw materials, chemicals, ancillary items & services, negotiating with suppliers, ensuring timely delivery, controlling costs, maintaining quality standards, and managing inventory. The role involves close coordination with R&D, Production, Quality Assurance, Logistics, and Finance departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Sourcing and Supplier Management
Identify, evaluate, and onboard suppliers of chemicals, raw materials, packaging materials, and other ancillary items.
Maintain and continuously update supplier database; evaluate supplier performance (quality, delivery, cost).
Conduct supplier audits if required; ensure compliance with safety, environmental & regulatory standards relevant to chemical industry.
Negotiation & Cost Management
Negotiate prices, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contracts to obtain the best terms.
Monitor market trends / raw material price fluctuations; recommend cost optimization measures.
Implement cost-saving initiatives through bulk purchasing, alternate materials/suppliers, process improvements, etc.
Procurement Planning, Order Processing & Inventory Control
Work with Production Planning to forecast material requirements.
Raise purchase orders / indent requisitions; follow-up to ensure timely delivery.
Maintain appropriate inventory levels to avoid stock-outs / overstocking; monitor safety stock.
Coordinate with warehouse & logistics for receipt, inspection, storage, and dispatch.
Quality & Compliance
Ensure all procured materials meet required quality specifications; liaise with QA department for inspection and testing.
Ensure procurement practices comply with internal policies, chemical safety norms, environmental regulations, and statutory requirements.
Keep documentation up to date (material specs, MSDS, regulatory permits where applicable).
Coordination & Reporting
Collaborate with internal departments: Production, R&D, Quality, Finance.
Prepare regular procurement reports: cost savings, supplier performance, delivery performance, pending orders.
Assist in budget preparation & monitoring of procurement spend.
Continuous Improvement
Suggest and implement best practices, process improvements in procurement cycle.
Use technology / procurement software tools (if available) to streamline processes.
Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain / Logistics field.
Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience in procurement / purchasing in the chemical manufacturing industry (or a closely related process industry).
Good understanding of chemical raw materials, quality parameters, chemical safety norms, handling & storage.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g. MSDS, environmental norms, chemical handling & storage regulations).
Experience in supplier evaluation, contract negotiation, cost control, inventory planning.
Familiarity with procurement software / ERP systems.

Awareness of risk management in supply chain (supplier reliability, quality deviations, delivery delays).
