Program Manager - Nurse Mentoring Coach

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Coach will provide strategic and technical leadership to ensure that the mentoring program is effectively implemented, quality standards are maintained, and learnings are institutionalized within the public health system.
The role focuses on strengthening clinical nursing practices, promoting respectful and compassionate care, improving maternal and newborn outcomes, and institutionalizing mentoring as a sustainable system within public health facilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Technical Mentorship & Support
- Provide on-site and remote guidance as well as technical leadership to Hospital-Based Nurse Mentors/ District Mentoring Team to strengthen clinical and mentoring skills.
- Ensure standard clinical practices in LR, SNCU, and M-OT are adhered to in line with national and state protocols.
- Facilitate coordination between LR, SNCU, and Maternity OT teams to ensure continuum of care.
- Promote evidence-based, respectful, and compassionate nursing practices.
- Develop and monitor mentoring plans, schedules, and targets at the facility and district levels.
- Coordinate with District Health Officials to ensure alignment of mentoring activities with state priorities.
2. Clinical Mentoring and Skill Building
- Conduct on-site coaching visits and perform hands-on mentoring on clinical, managerial, and mentoring competencies and coaching of Nurse mentors in LR, SNCU, and Maternity OT.
- Demonstrate clinical practices aligned with GoI/State protocols (SBA, NSSK, LaQshya, FBNC, Infection Control, etc.).
- Facilitate simulation-based learning and drills (e.g., triaging, PPH management, neonatal resuscitation, safe surgery checklists, KMC/iKMC).
- Support mentors in conducting case-based discussions, bedside teaching, and simulation-based training.
3. Quality Improvement & Monitoring
- Support adherence to infection prevention, biomedical waste management, and aseptic protocols.
- Facilitate review of facility performance data (e.g., partograph use, infection control, newborn resuscitation, documentation quality) and guide corrective actions.
- Support mentors to track key performance indicators (e.g., infection control, partograph use, newborn resuscitation, documentation).
- Facilitate case reviews, death reviews, and improvement action plans.
- Jointly review mentoring reports, analyze data, and develop periodic progress updates for program management.
- Facilitate monitoring of mentor performance through field visits, review meetings, and mentoring dashboards.
4. Coordination & System Strengthening
- Liaise with District Health Officials, Hospital Superintendents, and Nursing Leaders for smooth implementation.
- Participate in facility and district-level review meetings to share progress and gaps.
- Contribute to sustainability planning and institutionalization of the mentoring model within the health system.
- Coordinate and support during mentoring visit of Doctor Mentoring Coaches.
5. Data Use and Reporting
- Facilitate maintaining of mentoring logs, session registers, and skill assessment reports.
- Provide regular inputs to Doctor Mentoring Coaches.
- Document best practices, success stories, lessons learned, and innovations for dissemination at state and national forums.
- Track improvements in service delivery indicators (e.g., active management of third stage of labour, timely initiation of breastfeeding, neonatal resuscitation success rate).
- Submit monthly mentoring and progress reports with key findings, success stories, and challenges.

- External District Health Officials/Hospital Staff, Partners and professional bodies.
- Internal All Departments and other Big-Bets.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: B.Sc. Nursing with 3-5 years of relevant experience or M.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Registration: Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RN/RM) with valid registration from Bihar Nursing Registration Council or INC.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
- Prior experience in mentoring, teaching, or supervisory roles is preferred.
- Experience in working under public health or government quality programs (e.g., LaQshya, NQAS, MusQan) will be an added advantage.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Proven ability to collaborate with district government agencies and stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of health systems, MCH & complication management.
- Excellent clinical knowledge, strong leadership, and coaching skills.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal abilities.
- Knowledge of government guidelines, LaQshya, SBA, NSSK, and FBNC protocols.
- Ability to inspire and guide teams with empathy and professionalism.
- Data-driven decision-making and analytical mindset.
- Commitment to promoting compassionate, gender-sensitive, and respectful care.
- Ability to work effectively in resource-limited and high-load settings.
- Proficiency in MS Office and digital data tools.
- Willingness to travel extensively within the assigned district and facilities and work flexible hours as required. Collaboration with multiple internal/external stakeholders (individuals and teams)
