Professor of Transfusion Medicine

Core Responsibilities

• Clinical Leadership & Patient Safety:

• Oversee all operations of the hospital's blood bank and transfusion services, ensuring strict adherence to national and international regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., NABL, NABH, Drug Controller).
• Provide expert consultation to clinical teams regarding complex transfusion requirements, apheresis procedures, management of adverse transfusion reactions, and immunohaematology issues.
• Develop and implement hospital-wide transfusion protocols, policies, and guidelines to ensure safe and effective use of blood products.
• Ensure robust quality control and assurance programs, participating in external quality assurance schemes (EQAS).

• Teaching & Academics:

• Plan and implement comprehensive education programs for undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate (MD Immunohematology & Blood Transfusion) students.
• Serve as a principal guide and mentor for postgraduate students' dissertations and research projects.
• Organize seminars, workshops, and continuing medical education (CME) programs within the department and college.

• Research & Scholarship:

• Lead and direct significant research initiatives in transfusion medicine, blood banking, and related fields.
• Secure external research grants and publish a substantial body of research findings in high-impact, indexed journals.
• Present research and represent the institution at national and international conferences.

• Administration & Management (often as HOD):

• Manage departmental planning, budgeting, equipment procurement, and inventory control.
• Set high standards of professional conduct and discipline within the department.
• Serve on institutional committees, such as the Hospital Transfusion Committee and Ethics Committee.
