Job Description

Role Overview: As a Production Specialist I, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire production process for an assigned list of STM journals. This includes managing copyediting and composition for print and online deliverables, with a strong focus on ensuring the quality of the content. You will serve as a key point of contact for both internal and external customers, as well as prepress vendors. Your role involves ensuring adherence to established schedules from submission to production through to print and online distribution. Additionally, you will be responsible for quality checking at various stages, monitoring page budgets and other metrics, and collaborating with vendors to provide feedback and direction, ensuring timely project completion. Key Responsibilities: - Manage and coordinate the preparation and tracking of journal content for successful distribution to print and online platforms. - Ensure the quality of all content deliverables, including online platforms. - Oversee increasingly complex print and digital journals for societies, ensuring deadlines are met and content is delivered online in a timely manner. - Supervise vendors" work, ensuring strict adherence to quality and schedule, and escalate concerns to management when necessary. - Assist in training and provide sample materials as needed. - Interact with and manage internal and external customers, as well as vendors. - Evaluate vendor work, document errors, provide feedback, and participate in regular meetings to monitor performance and resolve issues. - Monitor page budgets, excessive alterations, and other risks for unbudgeted production costs, escalating as needed. - Manage advertising placement instructions and track receipt of ads. - Update production reports and systems with status information and identify cost-saving initiatives. Qualifications Required: - Education: Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, Communication, English, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience. - Experience: 5 years of experience in the STM publishing industry preferred, including leading a team of 5 to 8 members. 1+ year of copyediting scientific or health sciences journals or books is preferred. Experience with digital content delivery platforms and strong organizational, communication, and follow-up skills are necessary. Ability to conduct customer-facing business meetings and proficiency in MS Office Suite, Adobe, and XML. Additional Company Details: The selected candidate must be willing to work night shifts and will be eligible for a night shift allowance as per industry standards.
