Title: Product Development Scientist - VMS (Vitamins, Mineral Supplements)
Minimum Qualification & Experience: PG in Packaging Technology ideally from IIP (Indian Institute of Packaging)
Food Technology/Dairy Technology/Oils and Fats Technology with 5 – 10 yrs of experience in nutritional packaging development in packaging formats such as Laminates/ Flexibles, Rigid (Jars/ Tins). Ideally should have hands on experience in managing / handling various types of packaging machines along with proficiency level experience in Nitrogen filled packaging formats and packaging machines.
Other requirements – familiar with Should have working level experience in VMHS formats such as Soft gels, Capsules, tablets etc.
Knowledge of FSSAI standards, BIS norms, food laws and regulations in India
Knowledge of sensory evaluation and model of CPT for product evaluation
Should have good understanding of different manufacturing processes, various food processing technologies, especially those used in powder products like spray drying, dry mixing etc.
Good understanding of various ingredients & their properties, interactions, sensitivities and nutritional values.
Thorough knowledge in formulation development and recipe design and calculations
Well-versed in planning, arranging and conducting trials, from lab to pilot to plant-scale
Good working knowledge of project management, and working in structured product development process. Familiar with NPD process.
Knowledge of food regulations
Familiar with national and international regulatory bodies like EFSA, USFDA, FSSAI, Codex etc.
Able to create raw material specifications looking at FCC, IP, BP, USP, FSSAI standards etc.
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for formulation development activities, day to day execution of product developmental activities, procurement of new ingredients, vendor development, maintenance of lab equipments and resources, etc.
Execute Product Development activities at Lab for the given formulations and guidelines. Develop prototypes in the lab based on feedback, and ensure standardization of the formulations and prototypes for commercialization.
Execute process transfer and validate the process at plant level during pilot testing and subsequent commercialization.
Optimize and scale-up manufacturing operations for new products to support the commercialization of new products.
Ensure the execution of the formulation related activities as per plans and within the defined timelines.
Work with cross-functional teams on the smooth execution of new products.
Create a knowhow of product formats and technology and help in trouble shooting
Responsible for the timely and right execution of product development activities including formulation development, pilot & plant trials, shelf-life study, sensory evaluation, technology transfer and R&D documentation (Raw material and Finished Product specifications, protocols, reports etc.)
Working in projects in which basic knowledge of dairy, emulsion, drying, nutrition, process and sensory technology is required.
Right first time and QbD mindset, result driven, analytic and accurate.
Conduct wet-mix simulation in lab to develop manufacturing process with support of team.
Understand and summarize behaviors of different raw materials/ingredients during wet mix simulation.
Work closely with flavor houses to develop flavors in line with product matrix.
Responsible for maintaining QA compliance to process and requirements for the end to end value chain in product development.
