Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and strategic Manager – SQL DBA to lead our SQL Server database administration team. This role combines strong technical expertise in SQL Server with leadership and project management skills. The ideal candidate will oversee all aspects of database operations, ensure system performance and availability, drive best practices, and support business-critical applications. Key Responsibilities: Team & Project Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of SQL Server DBAs, providing guidance, performance feedback, and professional development. Plan and manage database projects including upgrades, migrations, security audits, and capacity planning. Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Development, DevOps, Security, and Business Analysts. Create and manage staffing plans, schedules, and resource allocations. Operational Excellence: Oversee daily database administration tasks including monitoring, maintenance, and incident response. Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies are in place and tested (e.g., AlwaysOn, log shipping). Establish and enforce database policies, standards, and procedures. Performance & Optimization: Review and optimize database performance and SQL queries. Manage indexing strategies, partitioning, and storage planning. Conduct regular health checks, capacity analysis, and tuning. Security & Compliance: Enforce data security policies, access control, and encryption. Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, SOX). Manage audit processes and reporting. Reporting & Documentation: Provide regular status updates and KPIs to IT leadership. Maintain comprehensive documentation of database infrastructure, configurations, and processes. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 8+ years of experience in SQL Server database administration. 2+ years in a DBA team leadership or management role. Technical Expertise: Expert knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server (2016/2019/2022). Proven experience in high availability, disaster recovery, and replication technologies. Strong understanding of performance tuning, execution plans, and T-SQL. Experience with cloud-based databases (Azure SQL, AWS RDS) is highly desirable. Familiarity with SSIS, SSRS, SSAS is a plus. Knowledge of automation and scripting (PowerShell, etc.). Soft Skills: Strong leadership and team management capabilities. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills. Effective verbal and written communication. Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders. Preferred Certifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate Microsoft Certified: SQL Server Database Administrator ITIL, PMP, or similar certifications (for process and project management) are a plus.
