Job Description: Automation Engineer (PLC/DCS)

Automation Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

• RFQ Creation & Vendor Coordination

• Create new project RFQs based on client agreements.
  
• Collect offers from various PLC/DCS system vendors and evaluate the technical aspects for approval.
  
• Provide technical approvals on offers and coordinate further procurement processes.
  

• Budgeting & Cost Estimation

• Communicate with the Sales and Marketing departments to submit accurate budgetary costs for the automation system based on client requirements.
  
• Ensure cost and technical requirements align with project specifications and client expectations.
  

• Program Development & Application Design

• Develop PLC programs, ensuring they meet project needs and specifications.
  
• Design and develop HMI and SCADA applications tailored to project requirements.
  

• System Documentation

• Prepare PLC/DCS system IO lists, documents, and reports as per P&ID (Piping & Instrumentation Diagram) standards.
  
• Ensure thorough documentation of system architecture and configuration.
  

• Design and Drawing Review

• Actively participate in the IO assignment, PLC/DCS panel General Arrangement (GA), IGA (Interlock and Alarm), and panel drawing reviews.
  
• Ensure drawings are accurate and meet technical standards, providing necessary approvals.
  

• Inspection & Testing

• Lead PLC/DCS panel inspections, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) activities.
  
• Ensure that panels are tested and meet the required standards and specifications during FAT and SAT.
  

• Commissioning & Site Support

• Participate in loop checking, start-up, and commissioning activities.
  
• Conduct functional tests for control panels, including PLC and DCS panels.
  
• Provide on-site support, including fault-finding and troubleshooting of PLC control systems.
  
• Offer online or remote support to resolve issues during commissioning and testing.
  

• Vendor Interaction & Material Inspection

• Visit vendor premises for meetings and material inspections.
  
• Ensure all vendor-provided materials meet project specifications and quality standards.
  

• Site Coordination & Client Communication

• Communicate with site automation engineers to understand any additional client requirements or difficulties during project execution.
  
• Collaborate with the project team to resolve any issues and meet additional client requirements efficiently.
  

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Education:

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field.
  

• Experience:

• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in automation systems, specifically with PLC and DCS systems.
  
• Hands-on experience with PLC programming (preferably Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or other common PLC brands).
  
• Experience in HMI and SCADA system development.
  
• Experience in FAT, SAT, commissioning, and testing of automation systems.
  

• Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems.
  
• Proficiency in system IO list preparation and technical documentation.
  
• Good understanding of P&ID, loop diagrams, and control systems design.
  
• Familiarity with automation software and tools for program development and troubleshooting.
  

• Other Requirements:

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  
• Willingness to travel to client sites and vendor premises as needed.

• Certifications:

• Familiarity with industry standards and regulations for control systems.
  
• Experience in industries such as oil & gas, manufacturing, or power generation is a plus.
