Job Description

Key Responsibilities

1. Quality Control & Inspection

  • Develops inspection plans for plastic parts (e.g., dimensional checks, visual defect criteria).
  • Uses tools such as calipers, CMMs, optical microscopes, and gauges.
  • Conducts incoming, in-process, and final product inspections.

2. Process Monitoring & Optimization

  • Works closely with molders and process engineers to ensure injection molding, extrusion, or thermoforming processes are stable.
  • Monitors key parameters (temperature, pressure, cooling times, viscosity).

3. Defect Analysis

  • Identifies and troubleshoots common plastic defects such as:
    • Sink marks
    • Warpage
    • Flash
    • Short shots
    • Flow lines
    • Voids
  • Uses root-cause analysis methods like 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, and DMAIC.

4. Material Knowledge

  • Understands polymer behavior (ABS, PP, PC, PA66, etc.).
  • Performs or interprets material tests (MFI, tensile strength, impact tests).

5. Quality Systems & Documentation

  • Maintains documentation under standards like

    ISO 9001

    ,

    IATF 16949

    (automotive), or

    ISO 13485

    (medical).
  • Prepares PPAP, FMEA, control plans, capability studies (Cp, Cpk), and SPC charts.

6. Cross-Functional Work

  • Collaborates with design teams during DFM (Design for Manufacturability).
  • Works with suppliers to resolve quality issues and improve consistency.
