Here are some key responsibilities and tasks of a physiotherapist : Assessment and Diagnosis : Physiotherapists conduct thorough assessments to understand the patient's condition, medical history, and goals. They perform physical examinations, evaluate range of motion, strength, flexibility, and assess functional abilities. Based on their findings, they make a diagnosis and develop an individualized treatment plan. Treatment Planning and Implementation : Physiotherapists develop treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific needs. They use a variety of techniques and interventions, such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, electrotherapy, heat or cold therapy, and other modalities. They educate patients on their condition, provide guidance on self-management techniques, and set goals for treatment. Rehabilitation and Exercise Prescription : Physiotherapists design and supervise exercise programs to improve strength, flexibility, endurance, and overall physical function. They may use therapeutic exercises, stretches, and functional training to enhance mobility, balance, and coordination. They also educate patients on proper body mechanics and postural correction. Pain Management : Physiotherapists employ various techniques to manage and reduce pain in their patients. This may include manual therapy techniques, such as soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, and manipulation. They may also use modalities like heat or cold therapy, ultrasound, TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation), or acupuncture. Injury Prevention and Education : Physiotherapists provide guidance and education on injury prevention strategies. They assess ergonomic factors, provide advice on proper body mechanics, and recommend modifications in daily activities or work environments to prevent further injury or recurrence. Rehabilitation after Surgery or Injury : Physiotherapists play a crucial role in post-surgical or post-injury rehabilitation.
