Job Description

The Visiting Physician will provide essential medical care, health assessments, and chronic disease management for elderly residents of the care center. This role is responsible for ensuring that each resident's physical health is monitored, diagnosed, and treated in alignment with geriatric care principles. The physician will collaborate with the nursing and caregiving team to implement care plans, oversee medication management, and provide clinical guidance. This role is structured on a part-time, consultant, or per-visit basis to offer flexibility while ensuring continuity of care for the residents. Key Responsibilities:Clinical Assessment & Medical Care: Conduct regular medical checkups, health screenings, and reviews of residents. Diagnose and treat common illnesses, infections, or exacerbations of chronic conditions. Provide care plans for managing hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, COPD, dementia, and other geriatric issues. Medication Oversight: Review and prescribe medications, ensuring appropriateness for elderly metabolism and polypharmacy risks. Monitor for adverse drug reactions or contraindications and update prescriptions accordingly. Work with nursing staff for safe administration of medications. Emergency and Critical Care Response: Respond to medical emergencies during scheduled visits or on-call basis. Provide urgent care for falls, infections, confusion, or other acute geriatric concerns. Liaise with hospitals or specialists for referrals or transfers when required. Documentation & Compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records of all visits and interventions. Ensure compliance with medical protocols, legal standards, and healthcare regulations. Contribute to internal audits, NABH or government health inspections, if applicable. Team Collaboration: Work closely with nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, and dietitians for a holistic care approach. Guide care staff and helpers in handling medical symptoms or health monitoring. Support end-of-life care discussions, palliative approaches, and family communication when needed. Required Qualifications & Skills: MBBS degree from a recognized institution; MD in Internal Medicine or Geriatrics preferred. Valid medical registration/license to practice. 5–8 years of experience, preferably in hospitals, eldercare, home healthcare, or community medicine. Strong understanding of age-related diseases, polypharmacy, and mental health in seniors. Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with elderly residents and their families. Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems (optional but preferred). Desirable Competencies: Certification or experience in geriatrics, palliative care , or dementia care . Comfortable with teleconsultation or remote monitoring (as per center setup). CPR and emergency response trained. Working Conditions: Flexible scheduling on a per-visit or weekly part-time basis. Must be open to responding to urgent care requests on-call (if agreed upon). Work primarily in a non-acute eldercare facility setting.
