Job Description: An OT Assistant/Scrub Tech in spine and joint surgery is responsible for ensuring that the operating room remains sterile and equipped, assisting the surgeon and surgical team during procedures, and providing vital support in spinal and joint surgeries. The role requires attention to detail, an understanding of medical instruments, and the ability to function under pressure. Key Responsibilities: 1. Preoperative Duties: Prepare the operating room, ensuring all necessary surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are sterile and ready. Assist in preparing the patient for surgery, including patient positioning and draping to ensure safety and access for the surgeon. Verify the surgical site, patient identification, and procedure details in collaboration with the surgical team. Organize and check surgical tools and implants needed for spine and joint surgeries (e.g., screws, rods, joint prostheses). 2. Intraoperative Duties: Maintain the sterile field throughout the surgery, ensuring all tools and instruments are properly handled and sterile. Hand instruments and materials to the surgeon as needed, anticipating their requirements. Assist in retracting tissues and providing additional support as required during the procedure. Keep track of surgical instruments to ensure none are left behind in the patient during surgery. 3. Postoperative Duties: Assist the surgeon with closing the surgical site, ensuring all materials are accounted for. Help with patient transfer from the operating table to a recovery area. Clean and prepare the operating room for the next surgical procedure. Maintain accurate records of procedures, including supplies used and any specific requirements or complications. 4. Patient Care and Safety: Ensure patient comfort and safety during the procedure, including monitoring vital signs in collaboration with anesthesia. Be vigilant for any changes in the patient's condition and report concerns to the surgical team. 5. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other surgical team members to maintain efficient, high-quality care. Communicate clearly and effectively in a high-pressure surgical environment to ensure smooth operation.
