Position: Senior Mechanical Static Engineer Location: Chennai Department: Engineering Reports To: Lead Mechanical Engineer Position Type: Full-time Job Summary: The Senior Mechanical Static Engineer will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical static equipment and systems throughout the Conceptual, FEED , and Detailed Engineering phases of oil and gas projects. The role involves leading the mechanical design of stationary equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, boilers, storage tanks, piping systems, and structural supports, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and project specifications. Key Responsibilities: 1. Conceptual Design Phase: Lead the mechanical static engineering efforts during the conceptual design phase for oil and gas projects. Define and review the scope of mechanical static equipment based on the project's process requirements and operational needs. Perform conceptual design studies for pressure vessels, storage tanks, heat exchangers, and piping systems. Develop preliminary design layouts for mechanical static equipment, considering space constraints, ease of maintenance, and integration with other systems. Conduct initial feasibility studies, preliminary mechanical calculations, and equipment sizing. Collaborate with process engineers to define the mechanical requirements for static equipment based on the process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). Provide input into the projects cost estimation and schedule, identifying key technical risks related to mechanical static systems. Prepare initial reports and presentations to communicate design concepts to stakeholders and clients. Ensure all conceptual designs comply with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API, TEMA, etc.). 2. FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) Phase: Lead the mechanical design development for static equipment during the FEED phase, ensuring designs are fully integrated with the overall project. Develop detailed calculations and specifications for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and other mechanical static equipment. Work with process, piping, and structural engineers to ensure that mechanical static systems are effectively integrated into the overall plant design. Conduct detailed equipment sizing, including thermal analysis for heat exchangers, mechanical design for pressure vessels, and structural design for supports. Prepare equipment datasheets, material specifications, and design criteria in accordance with client specifications and regulatory requirements. Review vendor documents, including equipment specifications, design drawings, and material submittals. Participate in project risk assessments (HAZID, HAZOP) and ensure that mechanical static systems address potential hazards and risks. Identify and mitigate any design challenges, ensuring that solutions meet safety, quality, and cost objectives. Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure that the selected materials and equipment meet the technical and regulatory standards required by the project. Ensure designs are optimized for cost, schedule, and performance. 3. Detailed Engineering Phase: Lead the detailed mechanical engineering design for all static equipment, ensuring that design outputs meet project requirements, client specifications, and industry codes. Perform advanced mechanical calculations for static equipment, such as ASME calculations for pressure vessels, structural analysis for tank supports, and heat transfer calculations for exchangers. Finalize mechanical drawings and design layouts for all mechanical static systems, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, and associated piping systems. Review and approve mechanical design documentation, including equipment datasheets, installation and fabrication drawings, and calculations. Work closely with other disciplines (civil, structural, electrical, and instrumentation) to ensure seamless integration of mechanical static systems into the overall project design. Coordinate the selection of materials and components, ensuring compliance with mechanical design standards, and that materials are suitable for the operating environment. Provide technical leadership during the procurement process by reviewing vendor quotations, assessing technical proposals, and ensuring compliance with design specifications. Oversee the preparation of material take-offs, Bill of Quantities (BOQ), and cost estimation for mechanical static equipment. Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work and ensuring adherence to quality standards. Participate in site visits to assess construction and installation progress, troubleshooting design issues as necessary during construction and commissioning. Provide ongoing technical support to construction teams and resolve any issues related to mechanical static systems during installation, testing, and commissioning. Lead or participate in design reviews and provide technical expertise to ensure that all design aspects are covered and risks are identified. 4. General Responsibilities: Ensure that all designs meet relevant industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, etc.) and client-specific requirements. Develop and review technical reports, project documentation, and design calculations, ensuring the integrity and quality of deliverables. Liaise with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, providing technical expertise and supporting project coordination. Stay updated with the latest industry standards, technologies, and best practices for mechanical static design. Contribute to the preparation of project schedules, monitoring the progress of mechanical static design deliverables to ensure timely completion. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, providing feedback on design and project execution processes to enhance efficiency. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Masters degree is preferred. 8+ years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on static equipment design for the oil and gas industry. Extensive experience with the design of mechanical static equipment, including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, piping systems, and supports. Strong knowledge of industry codes and standards such as ASME (e.g., ASME BPVC, ASME VIII, ASME B31.3), API, and others. Proficiency in mechanical design software (e.g., PVElite, AutoCAD, CAESAR II, etc.). Strong project management skills, including the ability to lead teams, manage resources, and meet project deadlines. Experience working in multi-disciplinary project teams, collaborating with process, structural, electrical, and instrumentation engineers. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of material selection, procurement processes, and vendor management. Work Conditions: Office-based. Occasional travel to client sites /Client Meeting as required. Mail - sindhu.s@firstmeridian.com ph- 8072856823 Location - Ekkattuthangal ,chennai
