Job Description

Position Overview: Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Manager – Finance & Accounts, will be responsible for overseeing of all finance, accounting and reporting activities. The candidate will be involved in supporting presentations to the board’s finance and audit committees and will work closely with the senior leadership team. The position will lead all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a team of staff members. It will hold functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and grants administration. The position will also be responsible for ensuring that the systems and procedures are in place to support effective programme implementation and conducting flawless audits. The candidate will work closely with departments and their staff to explore how the finance function can support operations programme. In addition, the role will partner with the CFO, Senior Leadership, the Human Resources (HR), Resources & Communication and Administration Department to enhance and better integrate Finance, HR, Admin, Resources & Communication functions About Us Muktangan is an innovative, inclusive, child- friendly educational project demonstrating how ordinary women and men, empowered with the right beliefs and skills, can drive extraordinary outcomes for children from their own aspiring communities. Over our 21 year-long journey, we have evolved into a Hub and Spokes model of Integrated Teacher and School Education with our teacher education centre as the Hub and 7 Muktangan run-municipal schools in Mumbai as spokes where we offer free, high-quality and inclusive English medium education from preschool to Grade 10 over 3800+ children from underserved communities and developed over 1000+ community members (majorly women) as teachers. We have partnered with UNICEF, BMC (Municipal), Maharashtra State Government and many NGOs to adapt the Muktangan model. Our Program is acknowledged by academic institutions and educationists locally such as Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), and internationally such as University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) in the U.S.A and BathSpa, Oxford & Cambridge Universities in the UK. Through our outreach initiatives and partnerships with the local and state government, NGOs, academic institutions both local and international, we have reached out to more than 97,000 children and more than 5,500 teachers and teacher educators across India. To know more kindly visit: https://muktanganedu.org/ Roles and Responsibilities : Financial Oversight & Compliance Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems, ensuring compliance with applicable GAAP standards and regulatory requirements. Internal Controls & Budget Management Maintain robust internal controls and safeguards for the receipt of revenue, expenditures, and program budgets; ensure alignment with actual financial performance. Audit Coordination Coordinate and support all audit-related activities, ensuring timely and accurate audit outcomes. Financial Reporting & Analysis Analyze financial data consistently and present accurate, timely financial reports; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor changes and keep senior leadership informed of the organization’s financial status. Budgeting & Forecasting Assist leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review financial plans while comparing with actuals to identify and address variances effectively. Board & Donor Engagement Support the CFO in engaging with the board’s audit and finance committees, offering insights on financial trends and operating models. Funding Agreements & Donor Compliance Finalize funding MOUs between the Trust and Donors; draft and ensure compliance with donor reporting requirements, including oversight of periodic reporting obligations. Statutory Compliance Ensure compliance with relevant statutory laws, including the Income Tax Act, Maharashtra Public Trust Act, and Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) and associated rules. Grants & Programme Accounting Oversee financial management of grants and programs; ensure consistent alignment of expenditures with budgets throughout the grant lifecycle and prepare financial reports for donors. Cash Flow & Operational Support Manage organizational cash flow forecasting; collaborate with Advocacy and departmental leaders to assess financial efficiency of program operations and develop finance systems to support them. Team Leadership & Capacity Building Leverage the strengths of finance team members; define roles clearly, provide training, and support their professional development to achieve individual and organizational goals. Internal Communication & Work Culture Provide leadership in enhancing internal communications across all levels; promote a collaborative and supportive work environment. Treasury Management Manage the organization's treasury functions, ensuring prudent financial liquidity and investment strategies. Educational Qualification: A minimum qualification of CA with a two to five years of work experience, preferably in not for profit trust or charitable organization Required Competencies: Solid experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board or other outside partners Personal qualities of integrity credibility, and unwavering commitment to Organization’s mission Knowledge on FCRA administration; Implementation knowledge of ERP systems desirable; Experience in leading and coaching a team and working closely with the Organization’s Leadership teams is essential; Technology savvy with advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software; Ability to work independently and collaboratively Analytical and problem solver · Ability to work independently and collaboratively · Analytical and problem solver How To Apply: Interested candidates are requested to email their updated resume along with a cover letter outlining how they meet the above requirements to contact@muktanganedu.org .
