Position Summary: The WTG Erection Manager is responsible for overseeing the entire process of wind turbine erection, ensuring that all activities are performed efficiently, safely, and within the established timeframes. This role involves managing civil foundations, mechanical and electrical erection, pathway clearance, Right of Way (ROW) issues, material movement, power evacuation, crane assembly, and more. The Erection Manager will lead a team of technicians, engineers, and subcontractors, coordinating efforts across various stages of the erection process. Key Responsibilities: 1. Civil Foundation Oversight: Supervise foundation work: Ensure that the civil foundation works for the wind turbine are completed as per the engineering design and specifications. Coordinate with civil contractors: Ensure that the civil works contractors adhere to the project timelines, budget, and quality standards. Quality control: Conduct inspections on the foundation to ensure compliance with geotechnical and structural requirements. Ground conditions: Ensure the worksite is suitable for foundation installation and handle any unforeseen ground conditions that may arise. 2. Mechanical Erection: Turbine assembly and installation: Lead the mechanical erection team to assemble and install the wind turbine components (e.g., tower, nacelle, rotor, and blades). Crane coordination: Manage the use and setup of cranes for heavy lifts and ensure proper rigging and safety protocols are followed. Mechanical checks: Ensure that the mechanical components are installed correctly and according to manufacturer specifications, including torqueing and alignment. 3. Electrical Erection: Coordinate electrical work: Oversee the installation of electrical systems, including wiring, transformers, switchgear, and other electrical components. Test and commissioning: Ensure the electrical systems are tested and commissioned according to project specifications, local regulations, and safety standards. Safety standards: Ensure that all electrical works comply with industry standards and safety protocols to avoid any risks during operation. 4. Pathway Clearance and ROW Management: Pathway clearance: Ensure that all pathways for transporting the wind turbine components (e.g., blades, tower sections, nacelles) are cleared and prepared. ROW (Right of Way) issues: Manage and resolve any ROW issues, including working with landowners, local authorities, and stakeholders to secure necessary permissions. Logistics coordination: Collaborate with logistics teams to plan the transportation routes, ensuring smooth delivery of components while minimizing risks and delays. Access management: Maintain clear and safe access routes to the site, ensuring the transportation of large parts and materials is unimpeded. 5. Material Movement and Logistics: Material handling: Oversee the safe unloading, handling, and storage of turbine components and materials at the construction site. Inventory management: Track and manage the materials on-site to avoid delays caused by missing or misplaced equipment. Scheduling deliveries: Coordinate the timing of material deliveries to ensure components arrive just in time to avoid site congestion and delays. 6. Power Evacuation and Grid Connection: Power evacuation coordination: Oversee the process of connecting the wind turbine to the local grid, ensuring compliance with utility requirements. System integration: Work closely with the electrical team to ensure the wind turbine's electrical system is correctly integrated with the grid connection and that power evacuation is smooth and efficient. Performance testing: Conduct or supervise testing and commissioning of power evacuation systems, ensuring the wind turbines output meets contractual obligations and operational standards. 7. Crane Assembly and Erection Coordination: Crane setup and operation: Supervise the crane assembly and erection to lift heavy components, ensuring safety procedures are strictly followed. Ensure optimal crane usage: Optimize crane usage to ensure efficiency during the erection phase, coordinating crane schedules with erection activities. Safety protocols: Ensure proper risk assessments and safety protocols are followed during crane operation and lifting. 8. Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Safety leadership: Maintain a strong focus on safety by ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with safety standards and regulations. HSE compliance: Regularly review and enforce the projects health, safety, and environmental protocols, conducting audits and inspections to mitigate risks. Incident management: In the event of an incident, ensure immediate corrective actions are taken, and investigations are conducted to prevent recurrence. 9. Team Leadership and Coordination: Manage a multidisciplinary team: Lead and coordinate a diverse team of engineers, contractors, and technicians to execute the erection activities. On-site supervision: Provide continuous supervision to ensure work is executed according to the project schedule, quality standards, and safety guidelines. Communication: Maintain clear communication with project managers, site supervisors, and other stakeholders, providing timely updates and reporting on progress. 10. Project Scheduling and Progress Monitoring: Timeline management: Develop and maintain the erection schedule, ensuring milestones are achieved on time. Progress reporting: Provide regular reports on progress to the project manager and stakeholders, highlighting any delays or risks and proposing corrective actions. Resource allocation: Ensure that the appropriate resources (labor, equipment, materials) are available and effectively deployed to meet project deadlines.
