The Pharmacy Auditor ensures that all pharmacy processes—including dispensing, billing, procurement, and medication management—are accurate, compliant, and aligned with internal policies and external regulations. The role involves conducting audits, identifying risks, monitoring controlled substances, and supporting continuous quality improvement. Duties & Responsibilities 1. Auditing & Compliance Conduct systematic audits of pharmacy processes (dispensing, inventory, procurement, compounding). Evaluate adherence to state and federal regulations (DEA, FDA, HIPAA). Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., NABP, Joint Commission). Audit controlled substance handling and reconcile discrepancies. 2. Billing & Financial Review Review pharmacy claims for accuracy and detect improper billing or potential fraud. Analyze charge capture processes and verify coding accuracy. Monitor third-party claims and reimbursement patterns. 3. Inventory Oversight Audit inventory counts, procurement documentation, and storage practices. Identify issues such as drug shortages, expired medications, and wastage. 4. Reporting & Corrective Action Prepare detailed audit reports with findings, risks, and recommendations. Work with the pharmacy leadership to develop and track corrective action plans. Follow up on previous audits to ensure resolution. 5. Training & Quality Improvement Provide education to staff regarding audit findings and compliance updates. Participate in performance improvement initiatives. Assist in developing or updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Healthcare Administration, Accounting, or equivalent (PharmD preferred). 2–5 years of pharmacy, auditing, or healthcare compliance experience. Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical regulations, pharmacy workflows, and insurance billing. Excellent analytical, investigative, and report-writing skills. High attention to detail and ability to work independently. Skills Proficiency in pharmacy software and audit tools. Strong understanding of medication safety practices. Ability to interpret regulatory guidelines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
