Upstream Process Development (USP)

Key Responsibilities

• Process Development & Execution:

• Execute and optimize upstream unit operations, including cell culture maintenance, media/feed optimization, and operation of lab/pilot-scale bioreactors (fed-batch and perfusion systems).
• Focus on processes involving

  CHO-based biologics

  , where prior exposure is highly preferred.

• Documentation & Compliance:

• Prepare and maintain rigorous process-related documentation, including

  SOPs, URS, BMRs, tech transfer protocols

  , and study reports.
• Ensure all activities adhere to quality management systems (QMS) and cGMP guidelines.

• Equipment & Facility Management:

• Actively participate in equipment commissioning, installation, and qualification activities (IQ, OQ, PQ).
• Support new facility setup operations where required.

• Collaboration:

• Work effectively within a team structure, potentially within a CDMO business model setup.
• Coordinate effectively with downstream and analytical teams for seamless process integration.

Required Skills & Attributes

• Experience:

  2 to 5 years of proven, hands-on experience in upstream process development within the biopharmaceutical industry.

• Education:

  M.Sc or M.Tech in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a closely related life sciences field is mandatory.

• Technical Knowledge:

• Strong practical knowledge of mammalian cell culture principles and bioreactor operations.
• Experience with GMP environments and quality management systems (QMS).

• Project Experience:

• Prior involvement in new facility setup or equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) is a significant advantage.
• Exposure to a CDMO business model is highly desirable.

• Soft Skills:

  Excellent analytical aptitude, strong problem-solving skills, keen attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
