Job Description

We are looking for a passionate and skilled Horticulture Engineer to join our team for in-house and ongoing site projects. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining sustainable horticultural systems, landscaping designs, and green infrastructure solutions. This role involves both office-based design work and site-based supervision to ensure the successful execution of horticulture-related projects. It is a intermittent post. Key Responsibilities: Design & Planning: Develop and design horticultural plans for projects, including landscaping, plant selection, irrigation systems, and green spaces. Prepare detailed plant specifications, horticultural layouts, and irrigation system designs. Select appropriate plant species, materials, and resources for each project, considering environmental, aesthetic, and maintenance factors. Ensure all designs adhere to sustainability principles and local environmental regulations. Site Supervision & Implementation: Oversee the installation, maintenance, and development of landscaping and horticultural systems on-site. Coordinate with contractors, horticulturists, and project teams to ensure the successful execution of the design. Conduct site inspections to assess plant health, soil quality, and the functionality of irrigation systems. Ensure work is completed in compliance with safety standards, environmental guidelines, and project specifications. Sustainability & Environmental Management: Promote sustainable horticultural practices, including water-efficient irrigation, organic maintenance practices, and the use of native or drought-tolerant plant species. Develop and implement eco-friendly practices that support biodiversity, energy efficiency, and soil health. Troubleshooting & Maintenance: Diagnose plant health issues, pest infestations, and environmental stress factors and propose effective solutions. Provide guidance on proper maintenance techniques, pruning, and fertilization schedules. Ensure proper maintenance and care of landscaped areas post-project completion. Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with architects, landscape designers, and engineers to integrate horticultural elements into overall project plans. Communicate project updates, challenges, and solutions to clients and stakeholders effectively. Qualifications: Education: The Candidate should be a Graduate in Agriculture Science with specialization in Horticulture/Arboriculture. He should have at least 6 years professional experience. Experience: 2-6 years of experience in horticultural engineering, landscaping design, or green infrastructure projects. Hands-on experience in plant care, irrigation systems, and horticultural technologies is highly desirable. Experience in managing site-based horticulture or landscaping projects is an advantage. Skills: Strong knowledge of plant species, soil science, irrigation systems, and horticultural practices. Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar) for creating landscaping plans. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of sustainability practices, including water conservation and native plant usage. Certifications: Certification in horticulture or landscape management is a plus. A professional license or certification in horticulture engineering (if applicable) would be beneficial. Working Conditions: The role requires both office-based work and regular visits to project sites. Occasional travel to different project locations may be required. The position may involve outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
